I have a 30.06 Ruger American. What is the best ammo I should bring? I will be going to the Western slope of Colorado! Thanks.

Dude IMO I would find some 165gr. Nosler Accubonds for longer range shooting or some 180gr. If you will shooting under 300yds.

Good Luck.

Thank you trophyhunter. Good luck this season. Is there a certain brand you recommend?

With ammo being so hard to find where I live in Kali. Just research the web and find which companies have some already loaded ready to go. Might need to contact Nosler and ask for dealers that handle that ammo. If you loaded you could custom load your own. But finding bullets, powder and rest of components are a challenge these days. I drove 4 hours each way a few months ago to get 50 rounds of empty 30/06 new cases that a small gun shop had on the shelf. The guy held them for me. All the big box stores and Cabelas were on back order....

Start looking now and hopefully you can find some in time for your hunt.
Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I have been out of town.
Good hunt'n

I bring two 30.06 rifles to my camp. The Tikka seems to shoot everything well. The backup, an old model M77 Ruger is a bit finicky. Ammo is only good if your rifle shoots it well, you can only tell that by shooting some of it.

You have tons of good options.

If I were hunting with a factory loaded 06 I'd use the Hornady Light Magnum 165 gr BTSP. at 06 velocity you don't need the super premium bullets.

Don't let the low price scare you, Hornady Interlocks are some of the best bullets ever made for general hunting use.

Stay thirsty my friends

I am very partial to Federal Premium 165 gr. Nosler Partition for my 30/06. In the past 20 years that's all I shoot because my rifle seems to perform the best with those factory loads. I've taken antelope, muleys, whitetails, and elk with the 165 gr Partition and have never had a problem...

Hey thanks all for the help. I ended up going with the Federal Premium 165 gr. Worked like a charm! Good luck to you all!
