Seat Cushions

I have a mule deer hunt coming up, and I expect to be sitting and glassing for extended periods of time.

Unfortunately, I injured my back pretty bad about 16 months ago, and I now have a sciatic nerve problem. It flares up when I am forced to sit for long periods of time. It is especially bad on hard surfaces that I expect to encounter while glassing for mule deer.

As a result of the above, I am trying to find a good portable cushion I can pack around. If you have had a nerve problem such as mine, you realize not all cushions are created the same.

If anybody has had a similar issue, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Any boat shop will have seat cushions that double as life preservers. They are lightweight and have straps which you can carry with our biner to your pack.

I had back surgery years ago, but still deal with sciatica from time to time. I bought a pad from Cabelas that I use. I think it was marketed for turkey hunting, but it does the job.

A little late, but I use a kneeling pad found in the gardening section of most hardware stores. The soft thicker one, not the hard ones. Very light weight, can be stuffed in a pack as is or rolled up, fits in a spotting scope pocket. In your case, two might be good. Double them up.

I know you are looking at seat cushions but don't over look small, lightweight chairs. Helinox chair one is very comfy and you can carry it in your day pack. I bought one after a friend showed me his and it works great.
