Hey guys. Wondering if you guys use an alternative to the KUIU/etc. base layers that all these companies sell. Just bought the guide jacket, but don't want to spend that kind of money on a base layer, including the down packable jacket they sell. Been looking, but want your input as I haven't bought new gear in almost 10 years. Thanks again.

I've been slowly adding to my First Lite merino wool base layers. Fantastic stuff but top of the line expensive. There are probably other less expensive merino wool product lines out there.

Hey FrontRange. I've been looking and found a real cool packable down jacket from Eddie Bauer. Here's the link. 1/3 the price of KUIU/Sitka and other hunting down jackets. Got mine for $76 from online store. Thought I'd share with everyone else.

MicroTherm Storm Down jacket in the ?loden? color for 129.99. at checkout use discount code ?brook? to get 40% off.

I haven't found a true alternative to KUIU for outerwear and insulation, but First Lite is a good option for base layer.

I was buying KUIU gear , but their wool shirts are crap for ruggedness they don't hold up well. I don't have a single shirt that doesn't have holes or rips in them. I have been buying First Lite gear their gear is TOP Notch. If you want a Killer combo one that you can wear when its - 20 or 50* get their Aero wool Wilkin or Minaret 1/4 zip shirt & their Chama EXP 330 . I have been wearing these two in combo since bow season last year all the way thru winter & Now horn hunting !! You can NOT go wrong with this Combo. Watch for their sales usually can get them for 25 % or more off. My 2nd suggestion would be go to Camofire.com & watch for their sales ,they had Ice Breaker Merino wool on there yesterday & That is also some damn good gear. Just my 2 cents
