I would like to go to Colorado this fall (Sept. 2012) and do an hunt for elk. OTC bow or something that. I have no points. Really are not looking for a huge monster set of horns. Just seeing some new country and meeting some new people who love the outdoors as much as myself. Live in SE Nebr. and could help some one on a hunt down here. I have all the gear we need for a base camp. Just need a place to go and some one who knows the area. Kinda early but it's getting kinda boring since the seasons just closed here, and a lot of months ahead to dream of fall.

I have a cabin in unit 55 should be able to draw with 0 pointS for elk, welcome to use the cabin the area is around Gunnison and Taylor Park,Check the maps and see what you think , looking for whitetail or pigs for my kids

wild hogs would work for me, would also like to get each of my kids a whitetail buck. Are you looking to come to colorado to hunt?

I have never hunted Unit 55 before.... Only units 61,62,and 70. How is the deer and elk hunting in Unit 55? I normallly go to Colorado each Oct but will not draw a deer tag this coming year. Burned my points last year. If we could make a swap for a hog hunt for the use of the cabin , would it make a difference on the time of year for you?

where did you hunt when you hunted 61 and 62 I have taken 8 bulls with my bow in 62 and filled my 61 tag on a big 6x5 two years ago.unit 55 was hit pretty hard a few years ago with winter kill but is slowly on its way back.our cabin is located in taylor park near gunnison. i would like to first see about whitetails for my kids that would be my first choice.

Hey guys thanks for the comments so far. Hoopscoach, I will be calling you soon. And r270 I really appreciate your comments. We have a lot of good whitetails here in my area of southeast Nebr, about 15 hours from Grand Junction.. World record class.............. probably not.But there are some nice ones, way better than average. We have hunted 55 before. But not that hard. Last year we hunted 62 around the headlands of red creek. Can't remember the names of the mountain peaks around there but it was just east of the divide road and just north or that road that heads to Delta from the divide road. I will find my maps and look at where we were for sure. I am hopeing to find someone who could or would hunt with us or guide us as we hunt elk. In return would work out a hunt swap or something else. 62 is OTC on elk with a bow, or do you know of some good other areas. Will break out my maps of 55 to see where you are talking about. Thanks again for the comments guys!!!!!

catman just a suggestion to keep in mind unit 62 is otc but if you have the time to make the trip out during the summer months i could show you around and you could decide first hand ,I have a pop up camper you could use, that way if you wanted to do somthing else you still would have time to set somthing else set up.62 is a very big unit that gets alot of pressure early in the seasons but slows down towards the last 2 weekends .Do you have to draw the tags in Neb. what is the best season to go rifle or bow.let me know what you think. we could check out unit 55 also.

Hey hoopscoach, thanks for the call. It was a real treat to talk to you and just to hear you talk about your hunts. You have a passion for DIY hunting. Thats is good. If it was a hunt in SE nebraska for that tag along to Alaska, you could count me in!!!!!! We'll probably be heading to Colo. again for an OTC bow hunt. Maybe will bump into ya. If we do , I feel it would be our good luck to be able to meet you. Thanks alot again Doug!!!!!!!!!!

No problem, It was good to talk to you too. You definitely have the right idea with regard to elk hunting in CO. Keep doing what you are doing and you will find honey holes that consistently hold elk and have success. If you need a place on your way out next fall to break up the trip, just let me know. I have plenty of room. Good luck and keep in touch!
