Heavy up front spotter

Hey guys,
Besides some homemade remedies from others on the web, I'm looking at a fix to my scope attachment point as well. I have a Burris spotting scope, it's decent glass, but the dumbest attachment point ever. It's way towards the back by the eye piece. So anyway, tons of weight out front and wobbly as heck.
I'm sure a better tripod would help, but I also want to rig something so I can attach it to the tripod with the weight evenly distributed.
Long and short of it is this....I have an idea in mind on how I can ghetto rig something to accomplish this.
But does anyone know anything on the market that is an adapter that does this for someone?

Thanks.

Shedygaga,
Thanks for the links. I appreciate you searching those out and posting them.
The only one of those three that would alleviate my problem is the Swarovski one. And unfortunately, About $170 more than me jimmy rigging my own.

Maybe I can create mine and then put it on the market!!

I'll try to create something and I'll post pictures afterwards to show how bad it is :)

I had the same situation with my Burris Signature spotting scope. I went into a local camera shop and found something that worked real well. I bought one for less than $20. If you want I can send you a picture.

highcountryhays,
Please do. I may have the same exact spotter as you if you've got a Burris too, if not a very similar design.

Here are a couple of photos. It is not perfect but works better than the mount on the scope. The problem I had was with lightweight tripods. They would not hold the weight out there on the end of the scope. I thinks this could be modified to work even better.

I will go by the store and see if they still have some.

I am having trouble posting pictures. I was going to send another but can't get it to go through. Well i finally got it through but it came out sideways?

Thanks Highcountryhays,
Do you felt like centering the weight over the tripod with that helped a bunch?
And are you in UT, where'd you get it?

I'm wanting to try something to literally attach the scope to the tripod about mid-way down the scope lens.

I'll try to sketch out a good picture tomorrow and show what I mean. Might try to rig it up this weekend?

Have you made any mods to your tripod? weight hanging from it? etc?

LAST EDITED ON May-22-13 AT 08:10AM (MST)[p]Centering the weight made a big difference in the cheaper lightweight tripods i carry in my pack and my window mount. Although this thing I bought doesn't perfectly center the Burris, it helps a lot. I think it could be modified to stiffen it up and center it exactly. If you are handy, I am sure you could make one.

I bought a bigger heavy tripod from Cabelas for about $80 and it has worked fine with any scope, including the Burris without having to do anything. The better tripod made a huge difference and is a good investment you won't regret.

I went by the photography shop i bought this bracket from. But i bought it about 10 years ago and they do not have them now. I did see something on Vixon Optics called a digiscoping balance rail
item #1811 for $35.

I have something else I am going to try to see if it works. I will let you know.

Thanks Mike!
Excited to try it.
Going up scouting on Sat morning. If I've got them by then I'll be trying them out.

Hey Mike,
I received the bracket yesterday.
I'll hook it up tonight and take it up scouting with me on Saturday.

Thanks again!
