Swaro EL Tripod mounting?

I recently purchased some EL's and was wondering what everyone is using to mount them up to a tripod. I have seen the universal mount that Swarovski sells, but it looks to be large, and quite frankly, and after thought on the part of Swarovski. I am wondering if there are any other options for mounting these to a tripod?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

The swarovski unit works well enough, but as stated is bulky and seems unnecessarily heavy for a tripod mount. I'm curious to see options as well.

The outdoorsmans probably has one of the better options when it comes to compact/lightweight. They push a stud into the hinge and use a small attachment to connect to the tripod head.

Thanks for the replies guys. I read a little about the outdoorsman mounting system, and they say that the stud works for the SLC, but not the EL. They said for EL mounting options to call them. I will try to call in the next couple of days.

Keep the ideas coming.

I run the outdoorsman tripod stud on my 10x42 ELs with the outdoorsman tall tripod and the set up works great. I have run a lot of different combos and I am finally satisfied. Up front cost wasn't cheap but you won't be disappointed.

Good to hear. Do you know if I can run just the stud and mount, and use it with my existing tripod?

Not sure which EL mount your referring to, but I use the plastic one with the rubber strap in combo with the outdoorsman pistol grip with the Jim white. It is outstanding. The Swarovski mount is a little bulky, but doesn't weigh much. The hinge pin idea is probably better if your only going to use the EL's. if you want to use another bino and not purchase more pins/mounts then go with the strap type mount. Keep in mind the outdoorsman EL will require having the pin installed for like $70 + the actual cost of the mount. I use mine on a Slik compact pro. They have a YouTube video explaining the process.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am quite surprised that there aren't more options out there. I like the idea of the outdoorsman, but I am opposed to sending my binos off for stud installation, and I don't want to have to buy a new tripod. I may just order the swaro one with the rubber strap, even though I find the design to be poor considering the quality and reputation of Swarovski.

Thanks again

I use the one that Willametteriveroutlaw uses and really like it. I'll try to get a picture of it in use and post it in the next day or so. fatrooster.

Thanks for responding guys. Do you know if that other Swaro mount will fit the new Swarovisions? My friend has that mount and uses it with the older EL's. I was looking for it, but I see that it is no longer on Swarovski's accessory list, and read that it won't work with the swarovisions.

I have the 10x42's

Let me know, and thank you a ton.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-23-13 AT 11:30PM (MST)[p]Thanks for the pics fatrooster. I kept going back and forth about buying that other design with the rubber strap, or the one that you posted, but didn't want to fork over the cash (considering I just dropped down on the EL's). I read on another forum where someone made their own mount kind of copying the ruber strap mount from Swarovski, so I figured what the heck, and made my own. If I hate this, I am out 3 bucks, and I'll buy the one you posted fatrooster.

I had a swatch of Kuiu fabric, so I covered the plate in it, and bolted the quick release tripod plate to the bottom. It weighs 6oz, and is totally flat, so it should take up no room in my pack.

Here are some pics, let me know what you think.

Very cool and ingenuitive. The Velcro might be a little noisy but in most cases we are glassing animals from a distance. You might be able to sell some of those. Hope it works out. fatrooster.

Never really thought about selling them, but I like this design far better then the swaro bungee cord contraption. You are correct about the Velcro. It's all I had laying around the house. Haha

I will buy one from you for $6. Good work really interested let me know if you would make me one.

jarhead, I got back from a weekend trip using this contraption and it performed perfect. I am not interested in making them to sell, however I will give you the blueprints so to speak if you are interested in making one yourself.

Let me know.
