I looking to get some new glass.I get out west once a year to hunt elk and the unit I like glassing is a big part.I have been looking at some vortex in 15x50 or 15 x56 but dont have a place near to put my hands on them. The 15 x50 are like 500.00 cheaper and the saving could help with some other gear needed like a gps.So would there be a big difference between the two.Is there another brand like minox that has something that maybe better. Thanks for any help given

4 years ago I picked up a used pair of Swaro 15X56s and they have become my best friend while glassing. But they are useless without a good tripod. The guy that sold them to me never used a tripod and he complained they were too heavy to carry around his neck.

Go figure!

Stay away from the 15x50, not bright enough in low light. Yes the Vortex 15x56 would be much better.

Another cheaper option but still a good glass would be the Minox German BL (just upgraded) 15x56.

The discontinued Minox 15x58 ED is even better and about the same quality of view as the Vortex 15x56. They show up from time to time for sale on the used market and that popular auction site for under $700 in minty condition.

For the Minox BL German look for a demo or new at cameralandny.com
