I saw a post from awhile ago about Pan heads, but nothing in the past year or so.I wanted to get some current opinions on what you are using in the field during your hunt for a Pan head. I currently have a Vortex Razor HD spotting scope. I have tried the vanguard from S and S and it had way too much sag. I bought a Manfrotto MVH500ah and its amazing with regard to sag and stability.. However, it just seems so bulky.

What set ups are you guys using and why?

I just bought a Manfrotto 700rc2 based on recommendations. Looks nice. Light and compact. I am headed to CO this weekend and will see how it goes. To early to give it an A rating but so far so good.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-28-14 AT 10:25PM (MST)[p]I'm real happy with my Vanguard PH-111v pan head But I'm only running Kaibabs on it. Its setting atop a Silk 624. For me it seems the best compromise to quality, price, and weight. You may want to upgrade to the outdoorsman If you didn't like the vanguard.

I was running this same setup as well as an 85mm razor on that tripod and head combo and never had a problem. Loved it until someone stole it. Those m'fers!!!
