I will use this spotting scope for deer and elk hunting Western states, combined w/ 8x binos. I would rather go with the XW20 (19x) for the wider view if I can get the same detail resolution, yet everyone raves about the XW14 (29x). I will also use this for rifle range max 300 yards. Anyone use these two eyepieces?

I have the pf80ed and I had the same trouble as you in deciding which to get,I was concerned the XW14 would be over powered at 36x on the 80mm but wanted the wide field of view.

I chose the xw14 and haven't regretted it one time. I rarely use the variable eyepiece I bought with the scope, the wide fixed lens has a field of view that is close to what the variable is at the lowest setting! I think anything over 40x is almost useless in low light or in the heat with mirage anyways.

The scope is so much clearer and brighter than with the variable lens many compare it to the euros. I won't claim that as I have not compared it to one.

If it would have been 29x like with the 65mm scope I would not have even hesitated as I wanted around 30x and 36x seemed a bit high and the 27x with the xw20 seemed a little low but closer. But the reviews on the wide angle xw14 won me over.

IMO buy the xw14 and don't look back it is a GREAT eyepiece.

Sorry for the long post.
