.257 Wby Scope Question

So I just got a .257 Wby that I plan on using mostly for Deer, and Antelope with the occasional Elk and Sheep hunt if the wife ends up really liking it. I've already got a Meopta 3-12x50 that I'm considering mounting on it. Considering that I won't be shooting this gun past 500 and will be trying to not shoot past 400 considering the downrange energy at that distance, do you guys think 12x is enough for big game out here? I've got almost the same scope on my 300WSM and it's plenty for Elk but I was only concerned about what a pronghorn or smaller deer would be like in the scope at 400 yds. Thanks for the advice guys.

If you've already got that Meopta, it will do just fine. If you're buying a new one, look at something in the 4-16x range, tons of good affordable scopes in that power range.

I have a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 w. a CDS dial on mine. Good scope. Zeroed at 300 yards with a 100 grain bullet it is good to way out there and not too heavy.

Your going to love that .257, its my favorite caliber to hunt deer and especially antelope with. I topped mine with a Zeiss 4.5-14x40 and it seems about perfect, but if you don't have another rifle to put the Meopta on I would give it a try and see how you like it. I also site mine in at 300 yds.

Well I think I might give the Meopta a try and zero at 200 and then use the BDC reticle for the rest. I haven't had time to shoot it yet though.

I have a similar situation..except in reverse.I have a Leupold Vx 3 .5 x10..I am pondering buying a vanguard in 257 wby to use it on deer and antelope..not that I need another rifle...hth
