I've been gathering info from everywhere I can on Kowa spotters, specifically the 66mm. Anybody use one? Used one in the past? I am really thinking about getting one as they are in my price range and seem like a solid unit. And no I won't consider vortex. mtmuley

I just purchased a TSN 664 and it seems pretty sharp. I have not compared it side by side to anything though. And this is my first spotter so I am not a great source of info as far as comparisons go. Was hoping to buy a Swaro but that is out of my budget at the moment. In the meantime, the Kowa should serve my purposes just fine. I am curious to hear others' opinions and comparisons of the Kowa spotters.

I've got a TSN 663 (I think that's the model#). It's the 66mm angled Prominar model. Got a 30X fixed eyepiece. It's a very nice scope, lightweight too. It is sharp to the edge of the field and has good resolution at low light.

Kowa scope compares favorably to my 80mm Swaro scope. Obviously, the larger objective does better at low light/higher magnification.

IMO, Kowa 66mm Prominar scopes give up very little to the big 3 till you get into the fluorite versions. Kowa 66mm Prominar scopes are not fluorite.

I got some awesome deal from Doug at Cameraland NY for some Zen-Ray ED2 spotting scope. It is 20-60x82. should check them out.

664 is awesome but not a hd swaro. For 1000, hard to beat. I just gpt a 884 from bhphoto for 1998 otd with the new 25x60. My guide on my last hunta few weeks would often want to look thru my 884. He had swaro. Watch BH, their pricimg on the 884 goes from 1399 to 1699 for nody only. For under 2000 you might get what some say is the best spotter made...jmo
