I am going to buy a new pair of 10x42 and I have saved the money to buy any of them. I have looked and I do think the Swaro's are better glass. But my financial brain is having a hard time with the price. So the question is do you really feel the better glass is worth 2x the price.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-15-15 AT 02:36PM (MST)[p]I just got a pair of the Meopta Meostar 10x42 HD (REAL MEOPTA/NOT CABELAS)....And they truly are alpha/world class glass. They are imo a step above non hd SLC and just within reach of Swaro HD....not worth the additional money to move to swaro - at least for my eyes and pocket book.

They are built like a tank and you can tell they are of European quality. To me ergonomically the remind me a lot of the original Swaro SLC Neu 10x42

If you have the money, buy the Swaros and never look back. You will never, ever, ever wish you had gotten the cheaper Binos. They will last you as long as you want to keep them, and still be worth a good chunk of change 10-20 years later if you want to sell.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-16-15 AT 07:46AM (MST)[p]I own the Swarovski 10x42 SV, the Meopta 10x42 HD, and the Leupold Gold Ring 10x42 HD, and they're all fantastic. As far as pure optical quality, nothing that I've seen (most all high end except new Lieica HD+, Zeiss HT/SF) can touch the Swarovision...it is spectacular. I'd put the Meopta and GR slightly behind it optically, but not that much, maybe at 95%, but if you're a rough and tumble hunter with your gear, I personally think the build of these two are a notch above the SV (not that the SV is a slouch). I'd own either of these two binoculars before I'd own a Razor HD.

I don't think you'll see things through the SV that you can't also see through the others, but the SV does it with a more relaxed, slightly brighter and sharper view. Whether is worth twice the money, I'm not so sure.

Buy the best and live the rest of your hunting life knowing you've got the best. If you've got the money it's a no brainer. As long as you don't lose them or get them stolen, you guarantee yourself a lifetime of warm fuzzies every time you bring them up to your eyeballs.

Fortis, that is the most honest answer I've seen from any Swaro guy on here.

A lot of elite glass guys make it out to be a waste of time even hunting if you're not looking through Swar/Lieca/Zeiss, as though $3000 glass gives you the eyes of God himself.

I hunt with Nikon and Vortex and I've caught heat for it on here for saying the same thing. I guarantee, the mid-range, even low mid-range, glass is good enough.

In real world hunting situations there are very few, if any, situations where you won't have the opportunity at a buck that you could have had looking through the expensive glass.

I take the time to say this, because the guys that get on here asking if they should get Vortex or Swaro, obviously are in a situation where dollars matter. If, that wasn?t the case they wouldn't be asking, as they'd already have bought the best.

If saving a couple thousand dollars does matter to you, then you need to know, there is NO functional reason to spend that kind of money. You can commute to work in a Corolla or a Corvette, either way, you're still getting to work. Obviously the fit, finish and ride are different, but the job gets done.

Bottom line is as hunters, if you want to the best opportunity to find gave, then the best glass you can buy is important. It may be a 5-10% advantage, but for many that justifies it. If it doesn't that is up to you the consumer. What I get tired of is the guys who choose not to that get defensive like it's a scam or that the other glass is not lesser. It is.

Value is subjective, but really the resolution and clarity of Swaro/Leica/Zeiss high end glass is simply better than Bushnell/Nikon/Vortex/Meopta by varying degrees.

Now, for rifle scopes I think it is an entirely different situation as I don't even rank clarity or optical quality as top in my needs and certainly wouldn't spend an extra $1k, as all I need to do is see enough of the deer/elk to place the shot and have it be reliable and not fail.

PS To me the final differentiator among the Alpha glass is the CS and Warranty, which is why I primarily own Swaro now.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-07-15 AT 07:55AM (MST)[p]Not being argumentative BPK, but I currently own the Meopta HD, Gold Ring HD, and Swarovision all in 10x42. If you can't find game with the Meopta and/or GR, it's a problem with the glasser, not the glass.

I also have the Meopta hd 10x42...

For a long time, the Swaro SLC Neu 10x42 was considered as good as it got....The Meopta HD is better.

If you can't find and animal through the Meopta HD's, 5% better swarovision is not going to help. IMO

I own swaro's (El SV) and have used them side by side in the field with most of the glass out there. I think the meopta is really good glass for the money, the ergonomics suck though.

I'd say by once, cry once. If I just would have stepped up and bought the swaro's 15 years ago, I'd be money ahead.

Any glass is better than no glass. I found a lot more game, the first year I carried a pair of 10x50 sam's club specials. Worked up through a couple of other brands. All were helpful. I did save up and bought a pair of ELs a couple of years ago. No buyer's remorse. Yes, cheap, mediocre or other better grades of glass will help you find animals. That being said, my swaros are one of the best hunting purchases I ever made.

I own 10x50 meopta's, Swarovski is a little better but I've put hundreds of hours through my meopta's, hours at a time with no eye fatigue. If we were talking spotter's I would say hands down just get the swaros but comparing bino's I would have given 200 bucks more for the swaros but a 1000??? No way!!!

buy the best you can afford. i have swaro i love them. got steiner nikon leupold.inever take steiner nik leu out of house.my 3 an 6 year old grandsons play hunting with them. great optics save you lots of walking.good luck/
