I am going to bite the bullet and upgrade to Swaro binos... I do not have the opportunity in my area to physically try each bino (EL & SLC) so I need your help.
Based on your experience and testing do you think the EL's are $500+ better than the SLC's? What advantages do you get with the SLC's? Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated! Note: I will be using the binos for elk and deer hunting in the Southwest.

Thank you in advance for your time.

I was told by a Swaro rep at the Expo that EL's are preferred by birders because they are true-to-color. The SLC's are preferred by hunters because the coatings are tinted to enhance colors (thus making animals easier to find). Also, some people have a problem with a "roller ball effect" from the field-flattener lens in the EL while scanning/panning, which birders typically don't do.

Simple answer is yes they are better, I'd take EL's every day of the week over SLC HD's. They to color and texture better which is paramount for hunting I do. That being said, you won't be dissappointed with either.

Get the 12's if you hunt big country.

I've wondered the same thing between the SLC and EL binos, From the research I've done they say weight is also a factor but everything I see they are almost the same. The SLC's are also better suited for using with a tripod due to their shape.

I have the older ELs, but when I went to buy binos, I was thinking the SLC or Leica. After handling and looking through them, the ELs and several others; I ended up getting the ELs. Its personal. People's vision are different, ergonomics plays in, etc...

I bought a set of 10 x 42EL Range this last year and kick myself for not saving every penny I could when I was younger to buy a set then. The EL are better in my opinion. I know after a week up elk hunting in all conditions that they are the best I have ever had.

FYI... The EL Range use the exact same glass/prism/coatings as the SLC, except they are actually less clear than the SLC because Swarovski has to put a reflective lens inside the tube to display the range.

In binoculars, anytime you are putting a reflective lens inside of the tube, you lose a little bit of quality.

This info came directly from the Swaro rep for Western US and Canada.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-24-16 AT 04:11PM (MST)[p]The current SLC is all you could need or ask for in a 10x42.

Its actually a slightly brighter glass than the EL Swarovision but the Swarovision is slightly better than the SLC in other aspects.

Get the SLC and use the extra coin for other toys.

Be sure to check out the Zeiss Victory HT if you are going to spend over $2000. Its tops of them all to my eyes (brighter). Love the big forward focus knob and the focus mechanism puts the Swarovski to shame).
