Swaro Ballistic turrets Question

I'm looking for some of you guy's opnion's on the Swaro BT. I'm thinking of getting a 3.5x18x44 Z5 with the ballistic turret. I've watched the video on them and they seem simple to set up but I'm worndering if some of you that own the scopes are happy with them and would buy them again. Thanks, Elk

I've owned one since they first came out. I love the quality of the glass, weight, etc. It's very simple to set up and use in the field. If there is one drawback, depending on your setup....you may not get as much distance out of the scope as you might want. I am shooting a 7mm remington mag with 150 gr Barnes TTSX coming out the barrel at 3150 and I can squeeze out close to 800 yards. For me....that's farther than I can effectively shoot so no concerns. For folks looking to do some crazy long range stuff...it might not work for you. I'm primarily a bow hunter anyway but I did shoot a late season bull with it last year at 600 yards. Worked flawlessly.

You asked if I would buy it again. I probably will go a different route because I like to try new/different things. Don't take that as an indication for whether I'm happy with the setup....I'm VERY happy with it.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-16 AT 02:29PM (MST)[p]Thanks for the responses sir, all good points. I'm a hunter and not a paper puncher so I think the scope would work for me. I'm not capable of making an ethical shot out past 400 yards anymore given my vision even though I've got a rifle capable of much more than that. As you have stated it sounds like it's not the right tool for long rang shooting but for distances up to 400 or so it sounds like it would cover my needs.

Thanks again, Elk

That's the exact scope I have. I wouldn't change a thing and would get another in a heartbeat. It's so simple if you've done your time at the range. I had a 500 yard shot in Wyoming this year on a high county mule deer. Range, dialed it, hammered him. Two months later, here in Texas on a mule deer hunt. 320 yard shot at the ranch record deer (low fence). Range, dialed it, hammered him.

I have the Z5, outstanding in ever way except for one glaring issue that has me wanting to switch to something else. Lack of sufficient elevation adjustment. Even with a flat shooting rifle like a 7mm STW, shooting a light bullet, you will get just shy of 700YDS or so. Good enough for most hunting situations, but not all.
