Looking at getting a new spotter. Couple I was thinking of are a Vortex razor 16-48 x 65 and a Leupold gold ring 12-40 x 60. Trying to stay in the $1,000-$1,300 range. Any thoughts or experience with these two?

I used the Leupold many years ago and really liked how short it was which makes it easy for packing. Optically I liked it. Have never used the Razor. fatrooster

Of those two, I'd go Leupold. Or, in that price range, look at the Kowa 66mm. I have a Vortex headed back to the factory. All I did was take it out of the box, and it's defective. No more of that junk for me. mtmuley

I have used a gold ring for over 15 years and like it a lot !! Small and easy to pack. Looking to get a Swarovski soon and keep the gold ring for backup and pack scope . Good luck. You should look for a used one around $700 save the extra coin for a tripod or some other item.

I bought the Razor 16x48x65 last summer. I liked it last hunting season a lot. It has its limits, and when sitting side by side with my buddy's Swaro, there certainly was a difference. But I got mine new for $950, 1/3 the price of his Swaro, so it's not a fair apples to apples comparison.

Overall I think it is a very good scope with good glass for the price. I have no experience with the other scope you mentioned or the Kowa, but most speak highly of them as well.

I have a Leupold gold ring that I would sell you. I bought it last fall and have only used it one time. It is practically new. They are $1199 at Sportsmans Warehouse where I purchased it. I would take $800.
