Can anyone else comment on the quality of vision in these Swaro 10x42 EL Range binoculars?

I am looking at buying a pair of these, but I am hesitating because I have read that a few people feel that there is a loss in overall vision quality (low light situations, etc...).

I really like the range capability with in these binoculars, but I am not sure I want to sacrifice vision quality.

Is it just a matter of opinion, or is it pretty much absolute that there is a noticable loss of vision quality when switching from the Swaro 10x42 EL to the Swaro 10x42 EL Range????

I just spoke with Swarovski tech support, and he acknowledged that the EL range does not have the same quality of vision as the standard EL. The difference is that the EL range does not have Swarovision, which is HD glass and a field flattening prism that provides edge to edge clarity.

I just used the EL Ranges I bought from Euro Optic for the first time. I have the old Swaro 10x42 ELs (Not the new Swarovision ones) and after 10 days in the desert hunting Antelope, my old ELs will stay in the closest until my son needs them. Possibly the best hunting purchase I have made.

Having a bino with a decent built in rangfinder has cut out one whole piece of gear, and the quality of the EL Ranges are high enough for me. There were 3 other pairs of EL Ranges on the hunt, and everyone felt the same. Just our opinions of course.

Unless you had the el ranges side by side with the SV's I don't think you see a difference. I have the SV's and love them, and at one time also had the EL ranges, they are a fantastic tool. Weird thing was for me, because of being right eye dominant I had problems seeing the yardage read out. Swaro took them back twice trying to "fix" them only to find out it was me, not the bino so I sold them off.
I now have the discontinued leica geovid HD-R's and have been very happy with them, optically they are right on the heals of my SV'S and the RF works great, you can still find them at some great prices.

I have been doing a little research, because I also, have looked at them. Supposedly, because of the light reflecting needed for the ranging, it does lessen the quality of the view. Is it noticeable, don't know? I bought the Swarovision mainly because I didn't like the feel of the range binoculars in my hand as compared to the SVs, the ELs just seem to fit so perfectly in my hands as compared to the ranging binoculars. Although, I disliked the Leica Geovid Hd even more in my hands as compared to the Swarovski range binoculars.

For me there was a huge difference. I owned both the EL Swarovision and the EL range. There is without a doubt in my eyes that the range have worse light gathering and not as clear of a picture. I kept the Swarovision model and compared them side by side in low light conditions for several nights. I wish I never sold my Swarovision model and have been contemplating going back, but the range finding capabilities have kept me from going back. Since my favorite hunt is muzzleloader season, the range finding model makes sense right now so I don't have to carry two pieces of equipment. If someone offered me a straight trade for the Swarovision model right now, I'd be hard pressed to turn it down. That's how much that model impressed me over the Range model.

I have the old 10x42 ELs and came to the same conclusion as you. I went ahead and bought the EL ranges. Can't wait to use them in the field.

I've used my EL Range's for a couple years and I absolutely love them. the glass is fantastic, as good if not better than my Leica Ultravids.

Is it as good as the Swarovision models? no. so what, I'm not a bird watcher I'm a hunter. the difference between great and a bit greater will never put a bigger buck on my wall.

My 2 cents.

I'll throw my opinion into the mix. I have owned both the EL Swarovision and now the EL Range. To be perfectly honest I'm a little let down by the glass in the EL Range. Don't get my wrong, it is still fantastic but I loved the swarovision's clarity edge to edge, especially when I'd put them on a tripod.

With that being said, even though I don't like the glass as much, the EL range is imopssible to get away from. Having the rangefinder built in is a must once you've used it. Now if you could just put the swarovision lenses into the EL Range...I'd have to come up with another $3,500.
