HI all,

I have always wanted to purchase a pair of high end binoculars but could not stomach the price tag. I now have the opportunity to purchase a pair of two year old 8.5 x42 Swarovski EL's in excellent condition from a coworker for 1,500. Thats a savings between 1,100 - 1,400 depending which site you buy them from. My problem and why I'm coming to you guys is that I prefer a 10x42 bino which is what I have now in a pair of nikon monarchs. My question is do you think the price savings and the significant jump in optic quality I will experience is worth the loss of 1.5 magnification. I usually hunt in open country at 9,000 to 10,000 feet elevation. I wish I could test them out where I hunt but don't have the time to drive four hours to test out a pair of binos. What do you guys think?

Thanks

Hell yes.

I started with 10x Nikon Monarch's from late 90's. Went to 8x30WB Swaro's. Night and day, and those weren't EL's.

I now have 8.5x42 Swarovision EL's. I use other buddies 10x all the time and I do not feel like I have too little magnification to find critters at all.

You will benefit from lack of "shake" when glassing by hand vs tripod.

I use spotter for judging, or glassing 1mi+. So should too.

Plus you're price is good.

Take that deal and you'll never look back! I went from some 12x Pentax that I thought were pretty good, to that exact same pair of 8.5 EL that you are looking at, I couldn't believe how much more game I was able to find, especially early mornings and late evenings.

The older I get, the more appealing the 8's and 8.5's are starting to look to me.

But.

In my experience you will always wish they were 10x42'S

For that amount of cash you could buy a new SLC 10x42 which many like myself prefer over the EL Swarovisions.

The Current SLC 10x42 is my preferred glass. I also have a Zeiss Victory HT in 8x42.

Previous owned glass that hit the road.
