Kowa 88mm spotter

I am looking to upgrade my spotting scope. I currently use a swaro sts 65 20-60. I have looked through kowa binos and Highlanders and was impressed to say the least. Does anyone have anything bad or good to say about kowas top of the line 88mm spotter?

I have the 883 and can't say enough good things about it. I'll be getting the 55mm version in the next year for my backpack.

I upgraded from your exact scope to the Kowa. It's awesome.

Where are you located? I am in northern Utah and have an 884 with the wide angle eyepiece. If you are in the vicinity, you are more than welcome to compare it side by side with your current scope, although I must warn you, it's not going to be much of a comparison. The Kowa is an amazing scope.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I am afraid the swaro will be going up for sale. I am in cedar city but I make it up to salt lake occasionally. Anyone need a perfectly good sts 65?

I have both the 66mm and 88mm spotters from Kowa. I sold an 80mm Swarovski and replaced it with the Kowa and couldn't be any happier. I put the 66mm in the backpack and the 88mm stays close to the truck.

If you look at some of the birder forums you'll see that the Kowa optics rank right near the top. I own Leica, Swarovski and Zeiss optics and the Kowa is top notch.

My only complaint is that nobody makes a stay on neoprene cover for the Kowas.

I have the 884 and love it, its a giant and heavy but i don't hike with a spotter,, just good binos, after i bought it i took it to a big box store and did a side by side comparison outside against the big swaro, even the sales guy said the kowa was brighter and clearer , i could not be happier, by the way i built my own neoprene cover over out of a knee brace , i never take it off and it works awesome ,

Any pics of your cover?

I'd be interested in making something like that for my Swaro since I don't want to pay $300 for the swarovski cover!

Not sure how to upload photos,,,,but what i did was bought a adjustable neoprene knee brace, the kind with velcro straps and adjustments, i started with the proper size, i just took my big eye into store and fitted it accordingly , i then cut out as needed to get to any adjustment knobs and shoe on bottom, it does not cover the eye piece or obj. lens ,i use the stock covers for both ends, IMHO i like better than custom covers at any cost

Yeah, I have the Kowa covers on both of my scopes and they work well. I just would prefer the neoprene covers as they're not as bulky.
