I'm looking to get the in reach explorer so that I don't have to come off the mountain to say hi to the wife. Plus the SPOT has proven to be garbage anyway. it looks like a good product except the GPS is very limited. What do you guys think?

My wife bought one this year and uses it when out on horse trips. there are different plans for service I'm not sure how all that works. I was trying keep my farm operation going from the middle of the Washakie wilderness sheep hunting this year and it worked great.

once in a while there is a time when it won't send but it seems to be short lived. batteries hold up forever as well.

I'm not sure what you mean about the GPS, it shows people where you are but that's about all I'd see the GPS does.

The GPS feature I am referring to is on the Explorer. You might be referring to the SE model which is just a messenger. The explorer is also a GPS but if I am correct it displays no topographic features.
