Looking for some input on canvas tents . I am in the market for a new tent, one that will sleep up too 4 guys with some room for a stove & some gear . Does anyone have any input on which skin is better ? I see a lot of them offer 10 to 14 oz canvas & some are cotton treated material. I have been looking at Springbar & Alaska tent & tarp

I love my Kodiak 10x14. It is easy to setup and easy to season. I dislike having to let them dry before packing but that isn't to hard to do here in dry NM.

I can easily fit 4 guys in and now have 2 sets of bunk bed Cam-O-cots to make an awesome basecamp.

However, you'll have to cut the stove jack or whatever it is called. I just use a little buddy heater.

Thanks for your info I have looked at the Kodiaks at Sportsmens Whse . Nice tents my only dislike was the two models they had both had Huge windows. I will have to check them out a little closer Thanks again

My .02 cents on tents.

First for four guys you need something a lot bigger than 140 sq ft, unless you are really trying to keep either weight or your footprint down. I have a 12x12, and yes I could squeeze 4, using at least on bunk, but it would leave no room for storage, no room for cooking inside in cold weather, and way too much snoring and condensation.

My friends have canvas and they are very nice, but I prefer the Alaknak tents from Cabelas. I don't like mice in my tent and without a sewn in floor you WILL have them. Also the weight is too much. Now, if I were primarily an archery hunter I might prefer one as the white cotton is much better when it comes to being in direct sun.

Nice thing about the Alaknak is the portability when its being traveled, plus the frame/pole system is included. I recommend you look at the 12x20 version. Add the vestibule and a stove, and you're done. Grab some carpet to layout on the floor. Use wood heat except first thing in AM to take chill off, which a propane heater is good for.

BPKhunter nailed it on all points . I love my alaknak with the vestibule, I'll never use a traditional canvas tent again.

Appreciate the info .. I have a few buddies that have the Alaknaks they like em as well. I decided I most likely need two tents so I bought the Cabela's Alaskan guide 6 man for starters will use it this fall for archery & into late October for deer. Will look at the canvas tents more in depth thru the fall .. Thanks again for the info
