I'm looking into purchasing a new spotting scope. A lot of the reviews I have read on Vortex, and its a lot of reviews, have said that when they get up to the 40+ magnification, they won't focus good enough. This really worries me and will probably keep me from buying this brand. Anyone can elaborate on this?

I'm researching the Leupold Kenai scope now....any info on this scope? Anyone have one? Thanks!

Steve

I borrowed the 85mm Razor from a friend this summer. While it is a nice spotter, I wouldn't recommend spending the money on it. Once you start cranking down the magnification the picture gets grainy. Taking it to the range @300 yards, it's difficult to call shots. Not familiar with the Kenai but when I drop the coin on a spotting scope it will be a Swaro. No point in spending that much to get an inferior product, IMO.

Theres probably about a $1000-$1200 difference between Leupold Kenai and Swaro. Figure you'll spend 50% more money....need to find out if the extra money is really, really worth it.

You get what you pay for. For the money, its OK glass. Its a GREAT upgrade for someone who never had a spotter or had a POS spotter before.

I have the Viper, and I agree with the above poster that when zooming in, the clarity is compromised a bit. You cant see as fine of detail, but it gets the job done. Its good for when you spot something far away with your binos and then want to follow up and check it out with the spotter.

My biggest gripe about the Vortex is that all of their threads are very thin and few in number. I tried threading in the eyepiece to my spotter, and it didn't thread. I tried multiple times and the threads ended up getting damaged so it was impossible to screw in (was impossible to screw in new to begin with). There is literally only 2 1/2 threads on the eye piece.

So I sent it to Vortex, and was happy with their customer service in that they replied quickly, returned the scope quickly and paid for shipping. But they didn't fix the problem. I tried zooming in on the eye piece when I got it back and the eyepiece just about fell out. I ended up just duct taping the damn thing to the scope and have had it that way ever since. I've seen other guys in person and even on tv with vortex spotters that are duct taped up around the eyepiece.

I don't have the money to buy a swaro, but when I save enough $, ill go that route.
