2800 or 2200?

Been looking for a new pack for day hikes, and hunting. Don't need anything real big, I have a brand new 4500 that is still in the plastic, but want something smaller for day trips. I know the 2800 is a little bigger, but what are some of your opinions. And how about the sacrifice? Thanks for your input.

2200 is a top loader and has good lifters, about like the 4500.
2800 is a batwing design and the lifters are shorter.
Depends on your hunting/packing style and torso length.

there are alot better packs on the market than Badlands...check out Blacks Creek packs...also White Buffalo packs {whitebuffalopacks.com} are a good looking packs. there is also a new one { www.kuiu.com } these are carbon molded & super lite weight like under 2 pounds...

I like the 2200 for the meat carrying aspect or longer stays. I am not sure how someone could recomend the KUIU pack when it isn't even out?

Badlands told me there will be a slight design change on the 2200 due to the belt was too big for alot of people.

Try em on and see what feels best to you.

No slam oldhornhunter, they are not even available and I see a bunch of guys saying how great they are. I am sure they are, but I find it funny how someone (not you) can promote something they have never used.

Price difference is about $300 difference or more as well.

Good hunt'n!

for a "day" pack i use the horn hunter g2 i like it, its perfect size for a day. but i have used the badlands hypervent, and i really liked that one too. i have a 2200 and i think its a little big for a day pack but i love it for over nighters or even week long trips.

"Shoot Straight"

hey hunting1 no prob..I know what u mean I got the same info so I checked there website out & yeah they look pretty good but also seemed way over priced...

Kuiu told me May is when the packs will be available. I too being a gear whore am looking forward to their review.

Good hunting!

thanks for the responses, I just have always used badlands, and I guess am used to them. Just wanted a smaller pack, and have tried both of them on, just can't decide on which one I want. Thanks.

The 2800 offers the same "Bat Wing" design as the 2200 but offers a nice bottom compartment that holds sleeping bag, extra layers or jacket, and weighs just a bit more. My favorite day pack from Badlands is the Diablo; great air flow to the back, 1900ci, and 2 1/2 lbs!

I have had the Ultraday, Superday, 2200, and the 2800. My favorite is the 2800. I liked the 2200 but I needed to be able to better organize wieght so I went to the 2800. The 2800 has a better configuration for what I need. I do backcountry hunts as well as guide and the 2800 works perfect.
One difference that really stuck out to me is the length of the pack. With the 2800 I can ride horseback without the pack rubbing on the saddle and I can look straight up without catching my hat on my pack. The 2200, however, had these problems.

All good packs though and the Badlands customer service CANNOT be beat!
