KUIU Gear

I ordered the top and bottom base layers on the 23rd, so hope they get here soon. All the feedback I have seen so far has been very posotive. I will be looking for those selling off their Sitka gear.

I got a few items that arrived this weekend and tried the guide jacket on a float trip here in Wyoming today. The jacket is going to be great it is very wind resistant, I wore a thin base layer and short sleeve t-shirt underneath and the high was around 35 degrees with a breeze for most of the day and I stayed warm throughout. I'm excited to use this stuff this fall, its definetely worth the price to me, I am very pleasantly suprised with the quality.

I am waiting to hear the report on the rain gear? If any one has bought it let us know what you think?

If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

Is there anywhere you can see and try these on. I'm looking at buying the base layer but I would at least like to touch and see them first. Do any stores carry them or is it online only right now. How do they fit. Do they run big or small

They are online only. I agree it would be nice to touch the stuff. I had a long talk with them the other day, they convinced me to get it.
I will be posting a complete review.
If you are in Utah I would be happy to let you check mine out.

I live in Payson Utah. If not to much of a pain it would be nice to see the stuff. Out of curiosity what convinced you to buy

Me too. I do have a pair of Attack pants and I like them better then my Ascents. But if the raingear is anywhere close to being as quite as these pants? I will own it.

Hey sniper,
I got the stuff today, and went on a 5 mile shed hunt with it.
You are welcome to come and look at it.

I have the base layers now and spent a weekend in them looking for sheds and turkeys. It was comftorble and still did not smell bad.

If you are going to layer then you will want to order the outer layer 1-size larger. It is lighter than I thought it would be, but overall worth the price I think.

Actually, since the KUIU gear is meant to be used to layer you don't need to "size up" the outer layers. If you're wearing XL shirts, then order XL outerwear as well. I'm not speaking from experience but Jason, the owner, has stated the same many times on his blog.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Attack pants. Just out of curiosity, what specifically do you like better about the Attack pants (vs. your Ascent pants)? Thanks!

Ah ok, I was speaking from experience, but since you were told and have no first hand experience go with what strawman said.

Just kidding you, but it will be tight if you go the same size. Good stuff!

hunting1, I thought you said you just have the baselayers?

I suppose it might be different for everyone (what might be tight to one person, may be perfect for another) but I just sent an email to KUIU and this was the reply:

Hi Doug,

Yes, you're correct. The KUIU line was designed as a system so there is no need to upsize to accommodate layering.

Best,
Veronica

I bought the merino base layer set at the grand opening. I'm 5'9 160lbs. The mediums fit me perfect. The medium jacket however was too snug in the shoulders. Large jacket fit perfect .

I have the attack pants and the guide jacket. I'm 6-4 200lbs and the pants and jacket fit perfect. I like the material a lot more than the Sitka. I've worn them around the yard when its cool to do minor yard work and to site in my new bow. I will be wearing the new gear this weekend in the snow shed hunting and fishing.

I am testing/evaluating the Chugach Jacket (shell layer rain gear) now. Posted a quick blurb on my site with more to come.

Re an earlier comment about Kuiu being similar to Sitka, Jason Hairston is the former CEO of Sitka.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts Wade. The Chugach gear looks promising. Would like to see how it stacks up to eVent gear from ID, Rab, and Westcomb.

I have purchased Chugach both the pant and Jacket so far I really like them. Wade they both have pitt zips :) They are a bit noisy but that is also a plus since they are not like the MT50 and wetout with the quite material pasted to the gortex. Still much cheaper than Sitka.

Just ordered the attack pants and guide jacket for my Alaska trip this summer. I can't wait for both!

"hunting1, I thought you said you just have the baselayers?"

I did, 2-sets of them. Buy what ever you want, I am just telling you that the 250 wool over the the 185 is snug.

Just got the pants and jacket delivered today...WOW! I only tried them on and wore them around the house for a bit...The most comfortable clothing ever! I can't wait to get them out on the mountain for a day!
