I am new to this forum.I need advice on game cameras. what works ? what to stay away from? reviews from experienced hunters, not salesmen.

Not a fan of the Bushnell, Had a buddy that bought a few of them, and the trigger was slow, and the pictures weren't that high of quality.

Covert cam, and the cheap old Wildview have worked well for me

I have a Stealth cam Rogue IR that takes the best pictures in the day as far as quality, I do get alot of blank picts whether it is leaves, squirles or the trigger is slow I am not sure. coverage is decent and range is decent. Problem sometimes it appears to short out for no apparent reason. I just wiggle the batteries and it is fine it only happens when checking it so just make sure it is working when you leave and no problem.

I have 2 cuddeback capture IR these cameras are smaller and are very easy to set up, I have had the same problem with the shorting out so make sure it is taking pictures when you leave. the coverage on this is small so you want it on a trail or a small food plot/water seep. pictures are poor in quality expecially at night. this is the least favorite and the most expensive of my cameras.

I have 3 moultrie I40's these cameras are a little bigger, they have great coverage and take good photos day and night, they seem to capture everything and I rarely see a blank photo due to leaves etc. The Battery life on this camera is incredible I can set it up for a whole season without worry that the batteries will die.
If I had the choice again all my cameras would be this one
though I would like to try the bushnell trophy cam.

For the price and quality I do not believe the Moultrie I40 can be beat!

I had some old Cuddie's that worked pretty good, for a while.
I 40's that work pretty good, the LED read outs tend to die, and they have slow trigger speeds.
Reconyx in a couple models, flipping expensive, and worth every penny. I know which cameras I know will have worked perfect every time I go check, have taken a ton of pictures(I have set to take 10 on a trigger and then only a 1 second delay) I wish I could afford more of them, I do just think they are that good and that much better then my others.

Why assume that the Bushnell Trophy is the best game cam available? It normally starts at $200, and you don't get much more than an extra megapixel. I recommend the Moultrie I-45. It's 4MP and has an infrared sensor that takes night shots without flash. Best of all, it's only about $120.

I hopy you are right about the I-45 I just bought one online for sale $87 I have read alot of bad reviews on them, most of them are dealing with the photos comunicating directly with the computer. I do not plan on useing that feature so hopefully I just purchased an Upgrade of the I40 for a cheaper price!

hunter_614, the Moultrie I-45 has a slot for SDHC memory card (up to 16gb). If you're concerned about the photos only being viewable from a home pc, you could get something like a portable digital photo viewer to see your cam's pics immediately at the field.

I used primos cameras and had good sucess with them. The ran me right at $99 each. I picked up 2 and it was on.

I also used my camera to view the SD cards in the field since I always carried it with me. I just put the card in and checked them out. I carried an extra card if I wanted to take the SD card home and put the pics on the computer. good luck with your choice.

not a worry at all I bought a cheap $40 camera that reads all of my SD cards in the field and I carry 2 cards for every camera so i can bring them back and upload them to my camera, I just hope all the negative comments are regaurding the modem and not the functuning of the camera! I have not interest in the modem at this point. being in the field is what it is all about!

Moultrie I-40.
Great pic's, day or night, batteries seem to last forever.
Very good customer service.
booner.

If you have $450 then the Reconyx 500 is the best at the $500 price point. Otherwise the Bushnell Trophy cam for $199 is the best $200 camera right now. Don't spend $130 on a Moultrie when you can spend just $70 more to get the Bushnell. You will miss a lot of shots with the Moultrie and your battery life will not be as good.

Then when you have problem Bushnell can tell you to F%$& off.
Customer service is a big deal when your talking Game Camera's, Sold them for alot of years, Mountrie will take care of you, Not sure about some of the others but I know for a fact Bushnell will not.
I have read and heard alot of good thing's about the reconyx.
Never used one though.

I agree with the Bushnell Trophy Cam, have not had any issue with service or performance, I currently run 24 of these and 6 cheaper Tasco's where theft has been a problem. I also use Tasco's for a whopping $85 they seem to perform very well, there are a few objective websites that post objective data on performance review...for less than $250 Busnell consistently outperforms Primos, Tasco, Moultri, and Cuddeback. Good luck with your purchase.

Although I haven't tried the Bushnell trophy cam....I have 2 other Bushnell cameras. I hate them. I recently bought 3 primos cameras and really like them. Easy to set up and take good pics

post up some pics that your cameras have taken, day and night, thanks!

BUT HOW FUN WOULD THAT BE"

If it says Bushnell on it, stay away. Gone through several, some will fill entire cards nonstop until bats are dead no matter what setting you put it on. Some will have horrible pictures, some will trigger slow, some will eat bats like candy. About 1 in 3 or 4 worked right.

Anytime I tried contacting Bushnell for any possible warranty items the best they could do is say take it back to where I bought it.

I know for a fact Bushnell will take care of there costumers. I've got 32 Bushnell cams , the older models, (2010) sometimes would do a rapid fire, taking several thousand pics in an hour . Bushnell has replaced all my cams w/ problems at no cost .
