stun guns

So i was wondering if any of you have anyfeedback on how effective stun guns are from an attacker?

I want to get my GF a stun gun so she has some defense. Im not sure she has it in her to actually use a firearm against someone but i think a stun gun would make her feel better about using it.

So are they effective or a waste of money?

I felt like crap for a few days after. The police tasers give a person a 5 second ride that feels like a week and a day long. The personal deffense ones give a 30 second ride. Everybody I know that has been hit by a taser can't even think about how bad 30 would be. They are desinged to let a person shoot the taser, drop it and run.

They could be very effective for deffense.

However, there is one thing to think about. In the line of duty, I had to used one once. My partner and I were attacked by a crazy drunk guy (he was actually crazy). Long story short, I shot three sets of probes and only one worked. Clothes got in the way and prevented the taser from working. When it did work it stopped the assault in a hurry but if my life depended on in, I would prefer a gun. JMO

Sounds to me like he is not talking about a taser, but the kind of stun gun that has two metal prongs and you have to touch the attacker to put him down.

For those that know, I also wonder how effective the over the counter pepper/mace sprays are for self protection

The Taser has the two prongs under the cartridges. It can be used in a Drive Stun mode which is the two prongs. It causes pain but does not stop an attack.

The bear peper spray can work for deffense. The OC levels are similar to the peper spray police carry. The same as a Taser though... Only works some time. People can and do fight through peper spray.

The OC spray I carry on duty is weaker than the stuff I carried when I worked at the prison. The stuff we carry now is only .02% oleoresin capsicum and the good stuff we used inside the prison was 5% OC. If you are going to go the OC/ pepper srpay route get the most powerful stuff you can find her.

The good stuff we used at the prison is called saber 5.0
I don't know if its legal for civilians though???
