Looking for new boots and am looking at Kentreks. I found the KENETREK TERRANE onsale and am wondering if anyone has them would you get these or would you get KENETREK MOUNTAIN GUIDE or KENETREK MOUNTAIN EXTREME?

That is a very nice boot for sure.
Some others in that quality range you may consider:

- Crispi
- Lowa
- Meindel
- Schnee

You would probably be happy with any of those boots, the key is to try them on and see how they fit.

Good luck

I have 2 pairs of Kenetrek Extremes and they are a great boot, but you must break them in. The break in period is around 50 miles after that they are awesome.

kenetrek hasn't stopped making the Mt. guide, they have redesigned it, just talked to them at the Reno sheep show.

I have sets of both of these boots and they are both excellent. The mountain guides are a bit stiffer for sure and takes longer to break them in. Its a specialized boot for steep conditions and backpacking but I pretty much use them for all my hunting. My extreme's have 1000 g insulation so I only use them when its really cold; wish I would have gotten them with the 400 g looking back at it.

The original mountain guides used leather that was not very durable in the tongue and as such, holes developed from friction from the boot laces. I had to send mine back to Kenetrek for repair. The new models have been redesigned with more durable leather to solve this problem.

I would probably go with the extremes unless you do lots of back pack style hunting or do lots of sheep hunting....

50 mile break in sounds about right, I thought I had mine broke in before my sheep hunt, but I didn't. I had blisters on my heels for the first 5 days. After they healed and I was good to go. I put another 10 days in very steep ground on them and they were awesome for the rest of the hunt. The soles are wearing a little faster than I like but other than that they are a very good boot.

Don't overlook the Mountain Safari boots. I use them more than I do the mountain extremes and they are surprisingly water proof for a non gortex boot. Just to be safe, buy one of each model....
