My buddy Paul at Vortex hooked me up with a sweet NEW set of Vortex Razor HD 10x42's to test out. I'm hoping to hang onto them for a month or so and compare them side-by-side with the optics I have been using....Swarovski SLC 10x42's.

I've done one two day scouting trip with the optics in hand and so far, they seem to be just as clear and pick up as much light as my Swarovski's. First and last light is when binoculars can make the difference, so that is when I'm going to put them to the test as best I can.

I'll share more as I get more time looking through them.

I am interested to see what you come up with. I have the 2012 version of these bino's and have absolutely zero netative to say about them. I have compared them to Swaro EL's-same magnification and objective size as my Razor, and can not tell any difference in clarity or brightness. From what I have read the 2012 are the same glass as the 2013, but the body has been re-designed to decrease weight.

I had the opportunity this morning to plant my eyes behind the Razor HD's...........very nice!!! I think they might have better definition than my old SLC's. They both pick up light about the same. I couldn't tell a difference there.

I'll report more as I spend more time behind them.

For the past few months I have had the privilege of using these Vortex Razor HD 10x42 binoculars side by side with my Swarovski SLC 10x42's. To be fair, the SLC's are about 6 years old. I've found that the clarity of the Vortex Razor's to be quite nice, and a bit better than that of my SLC's. I can also notice the high definition feature of the Razor's when compared to my SLC's. I've grow accustom to gripping my SLC's, so gripping the Razor's felt a bit strange, but I'm sure that is something a person would get used to in short time.

I believe anyone shopping for optics, definitely needs to consider the Vortex Razor HD's. You need to hold a set, spend a little time looking through them, etc.

I checked these out the other day while at Cabelas. I really liked them. They were super light and the image was great. I would really have to set them up next to my Swarovisions on tripods and look outside for awhile to really see what they're about. I think if someone wants really nice glass and can't afford any of the Top glass makers these would be my first choice.

If you want to see the difference map the glass, the vortex have alot of distortion on the edges, This makes a big difference in how much game you spot (loss of peripheral vision) and eye fatigue.

To effectively map the glas, pick an object with alot of detail and focus on it, then move the binoculars up, down, left and right and look for the distortion on the edges.

Has anybody else had a chance to use the 2012 razors in the field? Or has compared them directly to other alpha glass?

I am in the market for a new pair and am considering these along with used EL SV's so appreciative of anyoneyou elses experiences.

Thanks to previous posters.

I have EL's that were bought a year before Swarovision, still awesome glass. Buddy brings the Razor HD's by today & I am surprised at how clear they are out to the edges. I am in my 30's, no glasses, but my eyes are what they are. Can't find a difference. I have no dog in this fight....but these are certainly not junk.
