I see the VANGUARD ALTA+ 253CT CARBON FIBER TRIPOD AND PH-21 PAN HEAD SET for sale on camofire all the time and was wondering if any one here has purchased it. If so how is it? I'm looking for a tri pod for my 85mm spotting scope. Thanks for any replies.

i bought this tripod/pan head combo off camofire and used it this year. i love it. the pan head is awesome! its buttery smooth and works great with my 65mm scope. no doubts it would work well with your 85. i can set it up as tall as it goes and glass with my binos attached to it, all the while keeping its rigidity. its light weight and durable. MSRP that set up would be over $400.

Thanks for the reply hhunter23. I have been real tempted to purchase it for a while but just been hesitant. I currently have a sunpak 6600pg and it can not handle my spotter. The head just sink downwards from the weight. Thanks again for the review.

I too have bought this set up off of campfire, and have been quite impressed with the weight and quality of it. I am only using a 65mm scope but I think it could handle a 85. As for the head it is quite smooth and locks up well. It is not quite as good as the top end heads but for the pice you can't go wrong with it .
