This isn't Amy--- but the Central RAC did pass unanimously -- no magnification on muzzle loader scopes, mid-October LE elk season on some units ( they added the Wasatch and Manti units) Every thing else on the agenda passed also( CWMU, waterfowl, season dates for big game, LOA permit numbers, etc) Richard Hansen RAC member

So it looks like the big scare about big scopes on muzzleloaders was unfounded. From what Richard is saying, it's status quo with regard to magnification.
Thanks for the update,
Zeke

I wouldn't plan on the WB staying with the "no magnification on muzzy's" It wouldn't surprise me if they end up with a compromise and allowing up to 4x or 6x. There's been some chatter about that among the WB folks....

Southern RAC approved the new mid season rifle hunt(also added wasatch and manti). Lots of discussion on the muzzy topic but it passed 7-4. So northern and central region where against magnifying scopes, southern was for magnification.

Not to derail you post bess but, I will say on side note that after listening to the southern region RAC members speak during the comment period I was pretty disappointed in a few of their comments. A few seem to have forgot or don't care that they represent specific interest groups. I was blown away when I heard one of the new members say the reason he was against the new october hunt and wouldn't vote for it because HE wants a september tag! Are you f'ing kidding me! And to think he is a rep for the public at large. Same went for the muzzy comments, two members that voted for magnifying scopes said they were for scopes because THEY are getting older and can't see as well. Obviously personal feelings and preference will come into their decision on whether to vote for or against something but to not take into consideration what the sportmen or the public at large want is ridiculous to say the least.

Another interesting note was the new approach by the ranchers and cattlemens assoc. to reduce game populations. Instead of complaining about losing money, crop damage and competition for feed with their livestock on public land like they have in the past, they are now really concerned about the elk destroying crucial sage grouse habitat and the ever fragile aspen trees.

Hi there, Bess. :) I'm guessing that you're mostly interested in the big game votes at the RACs, so that's what I'm posting. If you'd like to know about the other agenda items, please let me know.

^Thanks for posting that info. It will be interesting to see what the WB decides to do about magnifying scopes on muzzleloaders with 3 RAC's voting against and 2 voting for.

Am I missing something? Let's have a "primative" weapon hunt and make it as least primative as we can. Give the deer a freakin chance judas. If you increase the magnification sure guys are going to be more accurate, but the excuse of there being less wounded game because of a higher power scope is B.S. Guys will just stretch that distance out even further. You will have people taking 400 yard bombs and likely wounding even more game. And essentially having a early high country rifle hunt on your hands. That's going to help the mature buck population. Every Tom ##### and Harry knows the muzzleloader hunt Is already a big buck wrecker. Don't you think we as hunters have enough of an edge as it is, much more technology and the "sport" of hunting will be lost.

If the scopes increase, will have every swinging ##### out there with there NEW super muzzy ie gunwerks that's for sure.

Thanks Amy & others for the Info!

So?

They're thinking about adding another Elk Hunt on the Wasatch?

I like the idea of a magnifying scope on a muzzleloader. Guys with 1x scopes are all ready shootn out to 300yds so it wouldn't matter anyways. Archery hunters are shootn out to 100yds, rifle hunters over 1000 yds. It's gonna happen with every weapon. If you guys don't think hunters are all ready using a magnification scope on their muzzleloaders your crazy cuz it happening now. I'm ok with it now as it is but I wouldn't mind it at all if it was allowed either.

I'm siding with Alan White & I don't even Hunt the Wasatch!

They gonna Keep pounding it until We have another Anthro Situation Ain't they?

When I finally re-draw a LE mezzleloader deer tag I'm planning on shooting out to 600 yards anyway so I might as well have a big scope on the rig!
Now, how high do I hold? LMAO

Zeke

Are the tag numbers for the new october wasatch hunt being pulled from the septmeber tags or are they just issuing more permits?

next can use red dot with hold over, if not let go for night vision scope or let us <not sure what called> we could one the detect heat you could get off brush some shots that way

0 power scope OK maybe 1x power

So what is the rule at this point???

with NR going in the draw points 15 elk 16 moose a tag is not forth coming anywho
