The Utah DWR website shows a meeting Thursday April 28th. What time does the meeting start? I'd like to attend to find out final approved tag numbers

For those who can't attend in person, we will also be streaming the April 28 Wildlife Board meeting online via YouTube.

Amy could you pass the word on that they really need to speak into the microphones. Usually it is the DWR folks that are giving their presentations that are the worst. Seems like they stand back and the microphones don't pick them up. Maybe they could get some lapel microphones. Thanks ea

Thanks for the feedback, elkantlers. I'll forward your comment to our Wildlife Board coordinator and technical team. We definitely want the presentations to be audible!

RE: Watch today's Wildlife board meeting

LAST EDITED ON May-02-16 AT 03:36PM (MST)[p]In the meeting, near the end (5hr 54 minutes)Mr Canning and the board are discussing the antelope island contract.
In his presentation on Power point, he discusses possible future antlerless hunts on the antelope island.
I thought the benefits from the mule deer transplants were one of the biggest justifications the DWR had for the 2 tags. The transplanted deer get moved to help other units throughout the state. 90% of the funds goes to the State Parks and 10% goes to the expo host (SFW).

If they begin to hunt antlerless on the island, instead of transplanting them, as Mr Canning stated "it's too expensive"..whats your thoughts on this?
A good thing or not?

A good thing or not? I guess it depends on whether you view it simply as an increased opportunity to hunt deer or as a reduction in efforts to increase populations and/or quality (trophy bucks) in other units in Utah.

And it depends on how (and when) these permits are issued. General Public? Limited Entry? Auctions? Depredation? Youth? All Archery? All Rifle? Winter season? During rut?

Also, whether or not it's "too expensive" also depends on your agenda and your financial involvement. If you're the one having to pay for it and you determine the results are not worth the costs, then that's different if someone else is paying the costs and you believe that the results are worth the costs, whatever they are.

It appears that this is the first time the DWR has made a statement about the worth of deer transplants. It's about time!
