Utah Archery Elk Hunt

I am looking to get my son out elk hunting with me. I have mostly elk hunted the Wasatch front. This is way too steep for him. He is 12. Looking for some tips on some spots that would be a bit easier for him to accompany me and be successful. Not looking for trophies.

Honestly I would take him out on one of the spike units, that will be your best bet to get him into the elk and he can plug a cow or a spike if you find one.

so you are just looking for someone to tell you where to go have a "successful" hunt, with nothing offered in return?

theres still 4 weeks left. why not go do some scouting (just like the people who you want to give you info had to in the first place)? is your time more valuable than someone elses? im sorry, but the internet is not the place to find new hunting spots.

that said, any LE unit in this state has plenty of hunting opportunities on them for cows and spikes. its really not that hard to fill a GS elk tag if you put forth a little effort. btw, if you are looking for "easy" places to get to for elk hunting and expect success, you are living a pipe dream. elk dont live in easy to access places

Ya elk do live in easy places. Just gotta look inside the box. Why are u being such a jerk anyway. This guy is just looking for an area he feels like his son can handle and u pull out a stage 5 douche bag comment. This site is great for people helping others out. So ya he will get some help. Don't be a jerk maybe he doesn't have the time to scout as much as you or the funds and wants to spend time with his boy.

Anyway enough of that guy.

Just pick a unit and go hunt spike elk. You will see a lot more elk and keep him interested. If u do a open any bull hunt
You take a chance of having him be bored and lose interest.

The wasatch spike unit isn't that rugged. And a lot of units have fairly easy areas of terrain that do hold some elk.
I think at 12 he should be able to keep up just fine anyway. Start getting him in shape by bike riding etc and by the time the hunts here he can be ready.

Good luck Oryx. I might try one of the LE units for a spike or cow this year on the archery.
