LAST EDITED ON Aug-14-16 AT 02:35PM (MST)[p]$1400 for an eagle AND a 4pt buck? that is ridiculous...the eagle alone should have been a lot more than that. An EAGLE?? why?? smells like some home cooking in piute county. no loss of hunting rights? why just a misdemeanor?

this was sent to me by a person who wishes to remain unnamed. they know the family, this is what they had to say

"You don't know me... I don't want my name used but I wish someone could go back to the DWR Facebook page and let everyone know that there were actually a total of five Eagles killed over a three month period of time and stuffed in the same tree trunk.... The kid and his brother stole a huge antler off a 16 year old kids grave in Circleville... The sherrifs department made them return it.... The real reason I'm pissed is that Hal Stout DWR officer did not strip Logan Ericson of his trophy bull elk tag starting August 20 tag on Mt Dutton.... HE WILL BE HUNTING!!! Please put the word out there... This guy should not be able to hunt anything for a long time...."

they also went on to say that this kids father has alot of pull in the county because of the job they have, and seems to get everything sept under the rug. no one dares speak of this problem because the dad of logan likes to bully people around and threaten people,

sounds like the whole family is trouble and thinks rules dont apply to them. if 5 eagles were really killed and this dwr officer Stout knows about it, theres some bigger issues here. someone needs to look into this a little further! anyone who is convicted of shooting an eagle, should not be allowed to hunt PERIOD.

I thought this smelled of small town politics when I first read it. If this is true and he has a Elk tag for this year that's BS!! Who can we contact to voice our concerns about this?? Somebody that would care and do something about it?? Sounds like he got rewarded not fined!!! BS

i dont know who to contact that will listen, or i would have already done so.... i guess just post this everywhere on social media... that usually gets peoples attention

Well I talked to a Paul Washburn from the UDNR today. And he told me that they are aware of the young man having that Elk tag for this Saturday. But since he was convicted in July they don't have enough time to legally pull his tag. But they are starting the process of suspending his Hunting and Fishing privileges for up to 10 years I believe he said. (I talked to him on the side of the road and my service was cutting out). Plus he did say that their was more Bald Eagles found dead in that area and more Deer too. But they could only get enough evidence for one Eagle and one Deer. They wanted the fines to be higher but that is up to the courts and out of their hands. And as far as the feds on the Eagle if they got involved than they could not use that against him on the state level going forward on the suspension. Paul was very nice to talk to and more than willing to answer all of my questions. He would like to get the facts out to anybody that is interested about this case.

thats a bunch of bullchit. the deer alone is enough to get hunting rights suspended for 10+ years. they should just use that and send the eagle part of it for the feds to handle. they will issue a suspension themselves as well... seems a little hush hush on the dwrs part. and they cant pull hunting rights from him now? thats not true. if they were serious about it, they could have a judge issue a statement under the utah state law code that can immediately revoke hunting rights because of a poaching conviction. suspended hunting rights can later be determined by the dwr at a later date.... officer jay topham knows how to do that really well from what i understand.

as far as more eagles being found dead in the area, very few people are willing to cross that line. what are the odds of 2 eagle shooters in the same area at the same time? slim to none.... i always thought killing eagles was a big deal. apparently not.

yet again, the dwr disappoints the general public as far as protecting our natural resources. what a shocker!

Can't believe the church would send him on a mission with that
hanging over his head.

If he refused to come back from his mission they could have convicted him in abstention and had his hunting privileges suspended a long time ago.

Hope he eats that Elk tag.

I doubt he disclosed the fact that he was being investigated to the church. Just a guess.

One of the questions asked in a temple recommend interview and a mission call interview is: Are you honest in your dealings with your fellow man? Either he didn't tell the truth or disobeying wildlife laws isn't considered a dishonest dealing with your fellow man in some parts of Utah and he got a pass.

If he were the LDS member he should be, he'd turn in the elk tag and take his lumps. After all, we still believe in repentance, even for the violation of a wildlife law, but it takes confession, restitution, paying any civil penalties, and abandonment of the sin. Let's hope he practices what he's preached for 2 years.

I am sure he will pay the penalty. I am sure not one to know what he confessed too before his mission nor will I judge him. The only thing I do know is youth brings out the best and the worst in people who later live a very honest and clean life because of their bad experiences. One day my grandkids will read a chapter, of short stories, of my life titled "BRAINDEAD". The title says it all.
