Antlerless tags

Just making sure. You can legally harvest a antlerless elk during your general buck muzzleloader hunt with your muzzleloader when both tags are the same area, even though the antlerless elk hunt has different season dates?

So I have a dedicated hunter tag for the pahvant and I drew a cow elk tag for the pahvant that opens oct 8 to oct 31. While I'm hunting bucks next week with muzzleloader I can shoot a cow elk if I see one.

The rule says, "... if you are an antlerless elk permit holder who also possesses a permit to hunt any one of the following seasons:
.General-season buck deer (archery, muzzleloader or any weapon)" (Note all the other qualifying permits listed, there's a bunch! And note on page 28, this same additional opportunity is available to antlerless deer permit holders.)

Since your DH tag allows you to hunt your unit all 3 deer seasons, you can, in fact, hunt the cow elk all 3 seasons.

But, as I understand it, there are some limits for DH's. The season you fill your DH tag by killing your buck, you'll have to use a different buck or bull (or antlerless elk)permit as a qualifying permit because you're no longer allowed to hunt your DH deer. In other words, each year you can finish out the season you kill your buck, but can't go into the next season. And once you've killed your second DH buck, you're also done with the DH permit as a qualifying permit.

It's a bit complicated, but for your particular situation and question, the answer is a YES! Have fun!

And the muzzleloader elk hunters got shafted by this rule if you like hunting an area where there's very many cow tags issued. We get to go out and try to find elk 3 days after every rifle toting deer hunter on the mountain launched lead at the cows everytime they stick their head out.
