Ok MonsterMuley friends I wasn't planning on doing this but I've gotten a bit worried from some information that I have received from other acquaintances (not on here). I was told how I picked the total wrong unit for trying to get a cow tag filled and all the private property I will have to deal with. I am hoping that I haven't made a mistake with this because I will be taking along a first time hunter with me that also has a tag. I'll admit its been a few years since I have hunted up around this unit but I figured I had some pretty good ideas and areas in mid to hit. I have areas I planned on looking into on the north end around Smith and Morehouse and on the south end heading up Upper spring road and working my way west. I have planned on getting off the road and hoofing it around as that's how I have always done it and to give my hunting partner the full experience I can.

I want to be clear....im not looking for anyone's hot spot or honey hole. I understand how that is. I'm just looking to see what others may have experienced and if someone can offer up some advice or there suggestions it would be greatly appreciated by the both of us.

I realize that this hunt is couple days away and this may seem last minute well I guess it kind of is but the season is long and hopefully there is plenty of time to get the job done.

I wish you all well this weekend for rifle opener, shoot strait and god bless!

thanks,
HD

What is the unit boundaries and season dates. I've hunted elk near Kamas several times on public land and had success, but we hunted ours mid December if I remember correctly...

There aren't a ton of elk in that unit, but there are a few. Have seen cows above yellow pine and along the north fork of the provo trail area. They hold tight in the timber most of the time so it can be a bit difficult to locate them. One of the corridors when they start moving off the top and surrounding areas is the north fork area, but timing is everything. The Smith and Morehouse area holds a few as well, just gotta hit the hard to access areas, wheelers will be on all the dirt roads. Lotta hiking involved. Best of luck to you!
