A bad deal for us -- and a cautionary tale for others who also set up camp in advance.

Its hard to hide a 24 ft trailer . . . so I am hoping someone out there might come across it somewhere and call the Wasatch County Sheriff with information.

As for the hunting -- we saw lots of does and fawns in Strawberry valley, but unfortunately, I couldn't get my boys any good looks at a buck.

Thanks,

Same thing happen to me 8 years ago. Some drugies pulled it on to some private property and had a party in it. The cops found it a few months latter. I really didn't want it back by then. I already had the wife talked into a new one. Hopefully you get it back and they don't turn it into a Meth trailer.

That is bs! But gawd i wished you didnt post that, mine is sitting on mtn, now i wont sleep! I hate thieves

Try not leaving your trailer on the mountain to save a spot unattended. At some point you have to take responsibility for your property. I'm not excusing pieces of ******* thieves but good lord you shouldn't dump your crap on public ground then cry when a thief of opportunity takes advantage of your need to be #1 to "your" camp spot.

Orrrrrr, just leave peoples shizz alone. No buts, or ifs, just leave peoples shizz alone, or better yet, watch out for the camp next to you.

Stealing is not the answer, but holy crap what is with Utahn's leaving their property in the best camp spots for weeks on end. Take the eye sore home and let someone have a fun time in a good camping spot every once in a while...

I agree with BBB and others - leaving your trailer on public property unattended is inconsiderate and irresponsible. Is it even illegal to take abandoned property? It sucks to be the victim of dirt bag thieves but it also sucks to be the victim of somebody laying claim to the best camp sites weeks in advance.

It is legal to leave your trailer on BLM or Forest service property for 14 to 16 days. Depends on which one you are on. It is not considered abandoned. I dont know the legal term . But I am sure someone here may know. Kind a similar to leaving a trail camera.

I think it is legal to camp in the same spot for up to 14 days or so, but I do not think it is ethical or polite to leave your campers there for 16 days so you can hunt for 5 days. It really is rude, especially in areas where camping spots are limited.

so your saying that I should pack my camp up and haul my trailer home and then do it all over again a couple days later? From the sounds of it that is what the OP is talking about not some guy setting camp up a couple weeks prior to the hunt. I have seen the same thing in Colorado guys setting camp and leaving it from the 1st season thru the 3rd or 4th. same stuff in Wyo and Idaho so it is not just a Utah thing.

All I am saying is try to be polite, especially on short general season hunts when there are lots of other hunter's in areas where camping spots may be limited. Is that really too much to ask?

I 100% agree with you on people setting up weeks in advance but not on breaking camp inbetween hunt sessions with a couple days break.

I always thought it was 14 days in one spot, but only 24 hours unattended.

I'm not a fan of saving spots and I've been known to contact USFS in the past so they can be tagged and towed.

I stand corrected...

"If trailers are left unattended for more than 72 hours, the Forest Service considers them abandoned property and may remove them from the forest. Violators can also be cited for this action. Enforcing these regulations protects the property and allows recreational users equal access to national forests."

Grizzly

Does this pertain to abandoned Wheelers?

I know where one is sitting & has been there for about 3 weeks now!

Bess,
absolutely applies to ATV's as well.

Here is the FS camping link :

http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/uwcnf/recreation/camping-cabins

Quote:

Camping in dispersed areas on the Forest is allowed for fourteen (14) days in any thirty (30) day consecutive period. Campers must move off Forest after reaching the 14-day limit. The stay limit also applies to all camping equipment (tents, chairs, ATVs, ATV trailers, etc.), even if used by a different person or group. Camping equipment must be removed by the end of the fourteen (14) day stay limit or the equipment may be impounded. Stay limits are implemented to reduce impacts to vegetation and wildlife habitat, as well as provide access to popular campsite areas for other visitors.

I Would LOVE TO SEE THIS ENFORCED!!! I have been hunting up Diamond fork with my son and wife for the deer hunt. My son is a youth and is hunting all 3 hunts. So we have been passing by for the last, ummm, several weeks. Since the bow hunt. Well, There are Several camps that have been there the entire time, since Mid AUG!!! Its not just 1 or 2 spots, but several spots. SO ANNOYING!!! And its not 1 or 2 trailers in these spots. IT IS A GIANT CAMP with several trailers and tents and campers and trucks and atv's and generators.

So looking at post 18, if the trailer was there for more then 72 hours maybe the family in the article should check with Forest Service and see if that is who "stole" their trailer.

I absolutely would not mess with someone elses stuff, but if you leave it unattended for long periods, someone is going to go looking.
