Any reports from the central rac? Like Most years I had to work. Mostly curious about their ideas on the preference point changes and elk objectives.

I like the idea of having a late season archery hunt for people who draw mountain goat tags and don't harvest an animal during the regular season. These hunts are almost 100% harvest success as is, but I prefer to bow hunt and this option would allow me to keep trying with my bow for one more week in November if I can't close the deal in September. I have 13 points, so my day is coming in the next 65 years or so.

As for preference points, I want to see a system where you lose your points if you draw your first choice or any rifle or muzzleloader permit. I think you shouldn't lose your points if you get an archery tag as a 2nd-5th choice.

Just my thoughts.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-13-16 AT 09:09PM (MST)[p]Anyone know how the Northern and Central rac voted on the preference point change and the new management deer hunts on the Henry's?

Though this would be awesome for me. I think it would be unfair to non archery hunters (I archery hunt just as a note).

This would allow me to archery hunt a unit every year and build points the entire time. I would be building point just as fast as a guy holding out and not hunting for a gun or mz tag.

Even as a bow hunter myself that idea sounds greedy.

And, it does nothing to close the loophole. You'll just have thousands of archers Putting in for thousand lakes rifle.

The one where we all put in for thousand lakes knowing full well we won't draw and accumulating points for not drawing our first choice, but then using our points that we do have to draw the unit we really wanted (as a second choice because of those preference points) ahead of people that listed the same unit as their first choice.

I'm one voice in many. I see why some people don't like my stance on preference points, especially with archery exceptions. I think we can all agree that the current system is not perfect and needs to be reviewed and possibly changed.

I will be watching the board meeting remotely online. I am very interested to see how these proposals advance in the RACs and the board meeting.

No, I am not kidding. I like the system as is. It's not a "loophole". This is how the system works. I like it. I know some may not like it. I just disagree and I don't like when people say there is a loophole.

Ok. I see. I thought you were implying that you were not aware of this "loophole", or whatever you want to call it. After all the discussion on it, I would be surprised if there is anyone left not aware of it.

I think it's just easier to use a one word description.

I still haven't expressed my opinion about it. So here goes...

I like it and would like it to stay the way it is. But I do see how if I lived near Thousand Lakes, or it was otherwise my unit of choice to hunt, it would really piss me off that the points to draw it are way over-inflated because everyone is using it to pad their points.

I was at the ne rac, it passed unanimously, they said the other four racs passed it as well.

I was the only person who stood up to opose it at my rac meeting. I think you should only lose points for first choice, then the rest should be a random draw where your points don't matter.

Don't know why I even tried, the one guy voting didn't even know the difference between a preference point and a bonus point.
