Utah Coyotes?

Hello,

Long time reader of this forum. First post. I have a 10 yr old boy who is really getting hooked into the outdoors and has been forever. Now that he understands more adds that pressure for me. I am looking for a good place to hunt coyotes here in Utah. I live in Utah County but not opposed to driving for a great outing. He has really been itching to get out and go. I am pretty new to the coyote game and would love to be able to take him out. I appreciate any help you may lend a fellow hunter.

I'm not familiar with central to southern utah, but up here in the north and west, coyotes are extremely educated. Damn tough hunting anymore. A few years ago it was way better. But with the bounty and the coyote hunting craze that has resulted, it makes it tough.

I find the further I drive the better it gets. Keep in mind though, that most states have coyote derbys, and just like you, there are a lot of new hunters out there looking for good areas.

Best advice I can give is go for it. Try to call and kill 1 per outing. But keep in mind also that it may take you awhile to accomplish that.

good luck. Let us know how you do.

There have been 2 contests I know of in the central area of Utah already. We have "GONE DEEP" a couple times and had some luck, but its getting late for that too. My advice would be hunt the mountains and hill areas. The are usually left alone longer than the desert spots. I have had luck finding areas that can be walked into easly from well used hiways. Make sure your off the road far enough and keep the sun at your back nd give it a try. Good luck. The only good coyote is a dead coyote.

You won't get anyone's spots, but you can go to the dwr site under coyote bounty and look at the map. It shows you the general area of where they are being shot at. You will see the hot spots. Good Luck!

West of Cedar city where the sage runs into the hilly stuff.
