LAST EDITED ON Dec-01-16 AT 11:00PM (MST)[p]I am a student at BYU. I saw a 5-point bull tonight with a spotting scope looking from near campus. I have seen others a few times in the mountains above campus (Y Mountain, Buckley), but I only see them in the winter though and only near the top of the mountains, even with a decent amount of snow.
My question is whether they hang out up there year round. I'm new to Utah, so I'm not really sure about elk habitat, migration, etc. Maybe they are residents, but they're just harder to spot when there isn't snow on the ground and they're not out feeding. Any info would be appreciated.
I know the Wasatch is a hard to draw, but archery is easier. Is that a possible place to hunt if short on time and living in Provo?
