UT 2017 Big Game Application Guidebook

What do you think about this change?

Losing points if you draw
a permit
Starting in 2017, you will lose all of your
preference points if you draw a general-season
deer permit, regardless of whether it was your
first, second, third, fourth or fifth hunt choice.
This is a change from recent years, when
hunters kept their points if they drew their
second through fifth hunt choices.

Since You Asked!

I Think Guy's That wanna Hunt a Certain Spot will Keep trying to Draw & Earn Points!

They'll put in for that One/Certain Tag/Unit!

If they get an UN!

Some of them will Act Quick at a Certain Time & Get theirselve's a Tag & Still Earn their Points!

This 'new' change works out well for my youngest boy.

Opening limited-entry hunts to
younger applicants: In 2016, the Utah
Legislature passed a law that allows younger
hunters to apply for limited-entry and oncein-a-lifetime
hunts. In order to apply for those
hunts, the youth must turn 12 years old by Dec.
31, 2017. For detailed information about age
requirements, see page 12.

Not bashing on your kid, it's awesome he can take advantage of that. But they just changed a bunch of things to try to shorten up some point creep, then they make it so a bunch more people can apply for OIL/LE tags, that couldn't before. Anything they did to make it "better", just got completely undone with this move

But are your LE unit points involved in this new rule or just general season choices.

Simply apply your 1st choice for the unit/weapon choice ya want to draw.

You will be fine and may draw depending on your Accurate Gen Deer points.

The best of Draw luck to ya

Hang on maybe I am confused but if you draw a general deer tag do you loose your limited deer tag points as well ?
