Huntin Fool cover story!

Wow, it has been a crazy adventure. Sometimes it seems like a hunt can go any way but the way you want it too.
Not this time!
My son drew the 2016 Sportsman's Antelope tag on his first try. He was only 14. Odds were close to 1 in 2950. After a bunch of scouting it was nice to find a huge buck just to be able to hunt. Things went perfect on the hunt and Bronson was able to take his buck on September 5th. ( After about 15 miles of stalking and 5 missed shots) The buck ended up scoring 84 2/8".
We had Paul Pennie mount the buck and he has it done in time to be at the expo next weekend. And if that was not enough I sent the story to the Huntin Fool and we were very surprised to see he made the cover story. This is one of those times thing just worked out perfect. This will be a hard one to beat!

Awesome hunt all the way around. Congrats to him. Memories there forever. Paul does awesome work and your son will have the mount and memories for a lifetime.

So awesome I hope that myself and or my son one day makes it to the cover of a hunting mag... means your killing big ones congrats !

Congratulations to your son! I have that issue sitting in my desk at work! I have enough points as a non resident to draw a good antelope tag in Utah this year I hope. My daughter shot a nice desert sheep here in New Mexico 2 years ago when she was 12. I wrote a story and submitted it she didn't get the cover but the story got me a me a new Mathews bow! What units should I be looking at? I'll take one just like your sons!

Pretty cool saw that issue thank you for sharing. Hopefully mine makes cover next month.

ABQHUNTER, Hard to say what unit I would pick? It was kid of overwhelming when you have the entire state to hunt. I narrowed it down to about 5 units that were with in a few hours from my home and tried to scout them a lot. Over the summer I drove 3000 miles looking around. If it were me I would pick North San Rafael. It has the reputation for big bucks but I never did see a huge buck there, but lots of bucks to look over. 3 were close to 78"+-. We were able to pass 65 bucks there in 2 hours Friday night and all day Saturday before we went to the Book Cliffs to try for the big one. Sure glad it worked out.
