Auction Tags Raise Big $$$, but No Record for AI Tag

The wife sent me this article about the auction tags sold off last weekend. Some big $$$ raised, but the AI tag was nowhere near the record. Wonder why? Geeeshh, it's not like $250k is that much to shoot a deer. It's only about $5000 per pound of deer meat!

I was just thinking that they have finally killed off all of the super bucks. No more giants to bring 405,000 dollars. But someone at the Expo said they thought it was because of the fire. Not enough feed to promote great antler growth. Not really sure. But the well has to run dry out there sometime. How many more years can it produce monster bucks like it has.

Funny, here i thought the whole reason for the tag was to improve yhe habitat out there, yet 1/3 island goes to ash and could use improvement, and it gets lowballed? I would have thought a concerned canadian would double the price to improve the burned areas. Huh?

Yeah what prick for only dropping 3/4 of a million of his own money on the Island. I am guessing that 405K got out of hand. Its really only about 2 or 3 guys every year willing to step up and give that much money. Wonder if they agreed to rotate it around without running it up to half million. Guess we will see huh.

Maybe nobody wants to pay that much for a 200in buck, but will for a 240in buck and there are no more 240 bucks left. Idn just saying.

Its been speculated that the two main guys that have bought it got together and agreed not to go against each other.

I would like to hear from Yelum if there are no more super-bucks out there. I dispute this. If I remember a previous post of his correctly, the biggest buck on the island was not killed this year. Sorry if I'm misrepresenting that.

What say ye, Yelum? Are all the "super-bucks" gone on the island?

I wouldn't read too much into the fact that the tag didn't go for $400,000 this year. I think another couple monsters will be killed next year.

You are correct Vanilla about the biggest buck not being killed. The gamble this year is that dirty giant could be going down hill with it's advancing age. Hell even the AZ tag drop significantly. With all the moisture the Strip has gotten it surprised me that it went less than 300k.

If he goes down hill, another will rise up to take his place.

$250k for a deer tag is still a lot of cheddar. I look forward to seeing all of the pics and videos guys take out thee this year!

Well, I think it's pretty cool that someone would spend that kind of dough on a deer tag. It's crazy. I know some people have more money than they know what to do with, but still, it's a deer. $250k to shoot a deer. I think these dudes buying the tag know they're not impressing buddies by shooting a deer on AI, but I think they spend the money because they genuinely want to help the cause and they get something that few others do. If I had buttloads of money, I'd buy it. It's only money, right. Can't take it with you when you kick the bucket.

Nothing against the auction Hunter because it helps out a lot with conservation BUT I would lean more towards these rich dudes can have an amazing hunt and at the same time use it as a tax write off. Win win. And yes I'm sure some of it is because they want to help but I'd guess more because taxes. But what do I know I can barely afford to apply for hunts every year.

When you get into the tax bracket that these guys operate in I am guessing that its not that big of deal. They could donate anyway they choose. I am just damn thankful they choose to put it into something I love and enjoy!!!

Yup. I'd agree if I didn't just get a notice that for dedicated hours the DWR and MDF are going out to restore habitat on AI. I'm confused. The tag money was "supposed" to go to the PARK to improve habitat. SO, why is the DWR and a private group doing it? Props again, and this is twice this year I have publically proped these guys, to MDF, but the PARK has taken in a truckload of cash, isn't this exactly what it was for?

I still stand by my original statement. IF, the reason you are forking out that kind of change is because your "concerned and want to help", then doesn't logic say that on a year when AI actually needs the help, you would continue the high dollar ammount? Yeah, this isn't my tax bracket either, but IF this is about money for wildlife, and NOT the easiest trophy unit in the US, than why would you get together with the other bidder and agree NOT to bid it up? Isn't it for conservation? Seems like the actions don't quite fit with the words. That $150k difference buys a lot of saplings and a lot of seed, but what do I know, as a knucklehead I don't spend much time in this circle.

Props to MDF. Thats twice, since January.
