Well, ok.

Not trying to be negative here , but,
This will be the 3rd year of over the counter,
unlimited spring harvest objective bear permits on this unit.
Runs April 1st thru June 2nd. Or unit the 25 HO is filled.

In 2015 the HO number was 30, and closed the end of May.

Last year, the unit did not close, did not make it to the HO number,
and remained open till the day before the summer LE season.
It was a freak'in zoo with hound doggers everywhere!

Bear numbers are on the decline on the Wasatch IMO.
Personally, We just hunt the HO hunt on this unit,
No points needed, and can hunt it every year.

Goofy said what I was thinking. With the otc hunt things have changed. With the amount of snow this year the spring hunt might be tougher and give you a better chance. Good luck

Once again, not trying to be negative Buccsboy,
But to be successful on your hunt you will need to find
a remote canyon/area void of roads....

Because on the Wasatch spring HO bear hunt,
Any were there is a road, there will be hound dogs.
And about any legal bear, will be dead.

This is my bear from Wasatch Summer.

We had 9 different bears on the cameras between the 2 bait sites. We were not in an area that was run around during the spring HO hunts.

If you are going to be setting up a bait pile and a blind make sure the blind is at least 30 yards from your pile. How you enter and exit your blind is critical. The bears will sit and wait for you to leave the blind.

I always heard don't let your bait run out. Not true for me. My 2nd bait was my backup and I didn't restock it for 9 days and there was activity everyday on the camera. In fact 6 of the 9 bears were on the second bait site. (Ended up shooting my bear on the 2nd site when we finally went and restocked it.)

If possible, find an easy downhill hike to your bait pile. We were packing in 50+ lbs of bread, icecream, grease etc each time we restocked. Both sites were uphill for the pack in and it sucked! (I was in the best shape of my life after the hunt though.)

Good luck and don't let it get in your head. The bears are everywhere, it is just a matter of when, not if they will find your bait.

Buc-

Wasn't it you that made a smart comment to a dad trying to get info on a spot for him to take his young kid coyote hunting? Funny how "everyone" is negative on here all of the sudden when they don't help you out. And at the same time, you have no problem not offering to help others.

Best of Luck on your hunt, I hope people stay quiet on here.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-29-17 AT 02:28AM (MST)[p]There are plenty of bears in Wasatch West unit. I have taken a couple from that unit. You have received some good advice on this thread, and it would probably be wise to steer clear of the heavily accessed areas during the HO hunt. Having said that, get some bait out there and bears will find you. I was dealing with some picky bears, and used a variety of bait and scent attractants. Cookie dough seemed to be the one that they couldn't resist? Good luck on your hunt!

What deer zone is that? I saw a big old boar 4 days in a row in October. Current creek area.
