Monroe Muzzleloader Elk

I have a good friend who drew this tag with 20 points. We have spent time on the mountain mostly deer hunting. We plan on spending time there scouting. My question is what portion of the mountain would you consentrate on, North, central box creek area or the South end of the unit. Is there more Elk in certain areas or Elk over the entire range? Thanks for any and all help.

Flip a coin. Lots of bulls to sort through on that mountain during the rut, but if you've hunted deer there, you already know that. Congrats to your friend on the tag, it will be a riot for sure.

I don't think you can go wrong, just about anywhere on that mountain should hold good numbers of elk. Finding one worthy of a tag? That's gonna be the hardest part of your hunt. Plenty of good bulls though. You'll have a great time

Yes it should be a riot! Just talking about it gets me pumped up and it's not even my tag. We will spend time during the archery hunt trying to narrow down some areas. Thanks again.

I live in Monroe and spend a lot of time up there. I was there this morning and saw a lot of elk all over. Tons over by Manning. I will tell you this, the bigger bulls will be absent until the rut kicks in so don't panic if you don't see much during the bow hunt. You could find a good bull almost any where on that mountain. We will be up there hunting deer during the muzzy hunt so I'll keep an eye out for you. My son has a tag. I have the late season muzzy deer tag up there so I'm kinda pumped about that myself.
