Ok antlerless applications are upon us. I have 4 cow points right now. My regular unit is gone, which is a good thing. The herd has been to far reduced near currant creek. I'm thinking about a couple cwmus but have never hunted them. My other option would be the book cliffs which o have never hunted. This is basically a meat hunt so I want to make it as easy as possible and not take up to much time. I live in Layton.
My kid is hunting for the first time doing a private land elk and deer hunt ion Idaho near soda springs this year so the majority of my vacation will be taken up with his hunt. If he gets an elk I will be turning in my cow tag I only have one freezer at the moment.
What would you guys do? Where would you put in for? Thanks

+1 hunt when you can and fill them up

you can never have enough elk in the freezer. right now I have over 200 lbs of elk burger along with about 75 moose. plus the odd steaks and roast. most of mine goes to burger. 2 freezers worth. both the elk I shot last year went to family. you just never know when your going to have a dry year. the only time I have had to buy hamburger in the last 25 yrs is when my freezer went out in the middle of july while I was on vacation.

Agree with the above, hunt now. 4 points will basically get you any hunt. I've never done a CWMU either, but that would be the route I would go with that many points.

Thanks for the insite guys. I ended up spreading my points to a couple buddies who had 1 each so we could hunt together. Hopefully we can still draw. With three of us going we opted for the book cliffs. I have been on a bull hunt and a cow hunt out there and feel we can find success on either of those two units. Roadless is out of the question even though I have horse access.
