Uintah's central Mtn goats

Well we have started some major homework for my buddy that drew 1 of the 2 new archery only goat tags for the central unitah unit. It appears we are looking at a bigger task than my west unit hunt 6 years ago due to access. If anyone on here has hunted the unit I would love to talk with you.
At the moment we are going to avoid the red castle area due to other reports of the difficult terrain that may make archery hunting really tough. If you have info that says otherwise I would love to hear it.
Info says a good number on flat top but am worried they would be mainly nannies, kids and smaller billies in the area. I am looking at hitting up the swift creek and garfield basin area in a monster 36+ mile trip over 4th of July to find some nicer bow country and hopefully some good goats.
I was also interested in the Krebs creek/chain lakes area but accessing other areas is harder compared to the swift creek area and as always time is short and 30 mile treks are hard in a 2 day weekend.

If you can offer advice feel free to text or email me at (eight zero one - five seven three - seven five one eight) or [email protected]

I don't think you will be getting to far in those areas over the 4th of July. Way to much snow this year. Maybe the end of July.

Maybe but all of the snotel sites have been free of snow for 2 weeks including the one in Garfield Basin at almost 11k. Combined with the current temps we should have decent access by the 4th.

Thanks to all that have given me info. We made our 40+ mile trek last weekend and are humbled by the size of the country. Seems far bigger than the west unit I hunted. We didn't see any goats at the ridge divide but a few down lower so we gather the migration in still ongoing. I only wish we had more 4 day weekends to dedicate to such a great area.
Can't wait till the hunt and I will keep you updated.
Cheers,

If the harvest reports are correct, no one with the archery only tag killed..... sounds like it was harder than expected
