I want to thank all the guys here that gave me some great advice and tips on my earlier post on the Books Cliff area for my upcoming muzzy deer hunt. Making the 14 hr. drive over that way this week for a couple of days to get the "lay of the land". September can't come fast enough!!

It's getting really dry out there. I'm hoping we can get some moisture as the animals need it and the fire danger is pretty high. Good Luck

Dry would be an Understatement!

C'mon Elkass, I got hit with at least 6 drops the other day, that or I was in the flight path of the wrong bird. But maybe it didn't make it clear out to the basin.

leaving to head up there the morning. I was told there is water up around the PR Springs area. Any other spots that hold water or are there any cattle troughs in that country? thanks

If you are looking for animals, you should be able to see many deer on the Divide road. PR springs is right at the top where the Divide Road begins coming from Ouray. Once you hit the T at the top you can go right towards Moon and Steer Ridge or Left towards Mccook. Take your pick, you will see animals both ways. Steeper country towards Mccook. Now, if you are looking for the areas you may end up hunting with a muzzy tag, you will be much lower. This time of year there wont be many animals in these areas. There will still be deer on top of the Divide road during your hunt, but they migrate down and when they start they move fast. My advise would be draw a line across the map at the Indian Ridge area. Draw that line from the Colorado border to Moon Ridge. This is the level that a lot of the deer had traveled to on the last Muzzy hunt I was there for. Again, you can still have success on and around the Divide Road. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thanks OpeningDay and the rest of you guys! I appreciate all the help and will definitely give an update on my hunt. Looking at the weather forecast for this weekend I will be packing the sunscreen!

PR springs and South canyon have water tested for human use. But there are little springs and cattle troughs all over the place.

Bobcat I heard you got 5 inches of rain,
5 drops 5" apart. Any truth to the rumor.
