Hey guys. Got a phone call this morning from the DWR informing me that they had a surrendered rifle elk tag for the Deep Creeks. Unfortunately it wasn't for me ( I'm blackballed for raising to much hell over sfw) it was for my wife. I put her in for the draw but she was unsuccessful. Now with such short notice we won't have much time to scout. Just hoping someone who's hunted that unit may be willing to share a little info. I'll be heading out asap to start scouting. Thanks in advance

Hey Wes,
I hunted that unit in 2008 during the muzzy hunt. I had my best luck hunting the Ibapah side between Arts Canyon and Rocky. The bulls would go up Rocky and hide out in the nasty thick stuff. Also don't dismiss the desert west of the highway. There were a ton of elk that would head out west every morning right through the sages. They would cross over onto the res.
