Had a great time up north here. Due to little league football in years past this was my son's first youth duck hunt experince. His first bird of the morning was also his first goose. I think he was more excited about that than the big game success he enjoyed last year (he harvested an antelope, deer, and elk last year). I am sure the whole pond heard him hollering when he folded that bird up. Ended the day with a limit of ducks and the goose. He was all smiles. A big shout out to Ben Rendon for making it possible!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-24-17 AT 05:04 AM (MST)

My 2 oldest grandsons completed thier Hunter education about a month ago. Took them down to the swamps of Utah lake for the youth hunt. We had a great time, they kept commenting how clay pigeons are ALOT easier to hit than ducks lol. The oldest,Tyler, ended the day with 3 teal, and mikey ended the day folding up a young drake mallard. An hour before shooting time ended he was soaked by rain, and the cold wind so we called it a day. Was one of my fondest duck hunting trips and I didn't even have a gun. Hope it's a memory they both hold on to, I know I will.

So all the good cold weather gear is loaded in the trailer, so dad said "just throw on a hoodie".

About 8 after being used as a towel for the lab I started a toilet paper and box fire to make my hands work again.

My son did great, blue wing, green wing, couple gadwalls, and a nice pintail. Must of been pelican convention, bet there was 300 hundred or so messing around, cool birds.

Props to the dwr, they were checking birds and licenses, but they were cheerleading the kids that came through. Every kid was beaming after talking to those guys.

I was able to take my 13 year old nephew out for his first ever waterfowl hunt and second ever hunt in general (First being a pheasant hunt). Went out with my boss and his son the evening after working for the DNR doing bag checks. Both had a fantastic time and shot 5 birds each. A mix of Widgeon, Mallards and teal. I guide waterfowl hunts in northern Utah and this by far will be my most memorable hunts that I have guided.
