Uintah Basin Extended in 2018

Good evening all,

I was hoping to get some information with anyone willing to share (just like every other sucker on here right?) Anyway, I'm very interested in the last week of the extended archery in the basin. I am taking my kids on their first antelope hunt in Wyoming in October so it kind of messes up my hunting schedule with work and the whitetail rut here in Wisconsin. I was thinking around Thanksgiving through the last day of the season (Nov 30) and was going to start some scouting now (digitally and through forums). I know there is a lot of winter ground there, but there should be some rut activity, I was thinking of starting in the NW corner of the unit maybe around Hanna or if anyone has a direction to point me, that would be fantastic and any info about past hunts/success or otherwise in the Unit is greatly appreciated!

Let the planning begin!

I'm not 100% sure but I beleive hanna is out of bounds. I'd look on the dnr and see what the boundary map says. Another thing to be mindful of is the Basin has alot of private on the extended and there is alot of Indian ground out there. So On-X maps would be your best friend. If money is not an issue you may be able to get access on some ground for some cash. A buddy of mine killed a buck about 7 years ago on the extended out there it was a solid 3 point. I wouldn't expect a giant with the deer herds out that way but you never know anything is possible.

Thanks Tines, you are right, I was looking at the wrong map! I would be a ways east of there. Truly not looking for a giant, just looking at chasing some muleys with a bow that time of year since I'm tied up earlier in the fall. Ill keep looking east, thanks again

Also try the layering on the division website. There may be some walk in access and wildlife management areas you could try.

I would say 90% of the deer are on private land or on tribal ground. If you don't know someone or have family in the basin it almost impossible for someone to get permission to hunt. And its getting like everywhere else the big money is leasing these big farms for all the hunting rights.Deer, Elk ,Ducks,Geese And Pheasants. One farm I know got 20k Just for the Ducks and Geese.

Eek! Sounds like whitetail property around here. And not to buck the system, but would you recommend a different extended archery unit?
