Best Limited Deer Hunt for 7 Points

I have 7 limited entry deer points and was wondering if there are any decent units that I would have a good chance of drawing either muzzy or rifle tag. Like everyone, I think it would be awesome to save for the Henrys someday, but that could be another 20 years down the road before I draw and I'm more interested in building elk points at this point. I'm trying to see if I can burn these 7 points on something worth while. Thanks in advance for any information.

Book cliffs archery has pretty good odds.... rifle and muzzy you are still a ways out before guaranteed on just about every LE deer unit. Unless you wanna draw a CWMU. Then that opens a few more doors. But those for deer can be a hit or miss, depending on years, units, and weather

Deerkiller is right.. your best chance in my opinion is the archery Book cliffs which you could have very solid odds. and the odds of harvesting a solid deer are pretty solid too. the muzzy hunt would probably be your next fastest route but your years away from that unless you have lady luck on your side.

Seven points won't get you much besides archery on the Books which would be fun. If you get into the bonus tags on a CWMU with 7 points, it's because nobody else will burn their points for it.

The above posts are correct. With 7 points, it's kind of difficult to even draw the book cliffs archery tag with odds hovering around 10%. Units such as the book cliffs aren't worth more than that but unfortunately it's your best option for a tag. I'm in the same boat as you but just came off my waiting period for elk. I'm planning to abandon my deer points and put in for elk again. Most deer killed in the book cliffs can easily be found in general units. Not worth my interest to wait 7-10 years for a buck when I can shoot bucks like the ones on the book cliffs every year. Jmho.

If you residents ever get the chance to voice an opinion, could you tell the powers that be that us NRs want to be put back on being able to apply for one hunt tag like you can do. Our odds really went to crap when they allowed us to apply for all species. Why don't they let us apply for points for all species so they still get the same amount money, but only apply for one tag.

That is what we are doing anyway because WE CAN ONLY DRAW ONE TAG. If we draw one, we are removed from the draw for all other tags anyway, so we have the illusion we are getting a good deal, but what we are really getting is screwed in the odds to draw.

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

I was not aware i couldnt draw both. Ive only been building pts and occasionally putting in for a pauns hunt here and there. I was thinking it may be time to put in for both to increase chances.

This is the hunt I'm saving my points up for currently actually, I think as a NR my tipping point number is 9 points though, so I'm still a few years out. In the mean time, I'm going to give the fish lake a try I think. Good luck to you!!

I have 3 points for limited entry deer as well. I really only applied for deer there because I was trying to draw elk primarily which I did last yr. so Now i?d Like to use these sooner than later. My question is Can I use these deer points since they were limited entry points to apply for the general deer option? And if so, does the general license let u hunt several units for deer or do u have to choose a unit even in the general hunt? Thanks!

I dont know where you guys are getting the idea that 7 points is good odds for a bookcliffs tag, took 9 points to be in the bonus last year, and with two bloated point groups in front of him he is still a few years out from a guarantee.

If you are wanting to burn your points on a muzzy hunt you would be best to start looking into the late season muzzy hunts on the general season units.
